After going 4-1 in the round robin play at the USA Baseball 16U West Championships, Team Baseball Factory earned the 13th seed out of 72 teams in the championship bracket. The Factory team was set to face the 20th ranked Team CalTex in the first match-up of championship play. In exciting fashion, the Factory walked-off in the bottom of the 7th inning, beating out CalTex 7-6 and advancing to the sweet sixteen.
Team Factory’s next opponent was the 4th seeded All-Star Baseball Academy out of Phoenix, AZ. Both clubs battled back and forth through seven innings. At the end of seventh the score remained tied, forcing the game into international tie-breaker rules with runners placed on 1st and 2nd base with zero outs. The Factory club took advantage of this rule, scoring twice in the top of the 8th. Unfortunately it wouldn’t be enough, as All-Star Baseball Academy answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, final score 11-10.
Despite the loss to All-Star Baseball Academy, the effort of this Factory team has been second to none. A strong comradery formed amongst the players that undoubtedly impacted their success in the tournament. As it stands today, the Factory team earned an overall record of 5-2 and will play in a final consolation game.
This club has really set the bar high after making the best run in Factory’s history in this big time tournament. Congratulations to the Baseball Factory squad playing in the USA Baseball 16U Championship!
