Baseball Factory is excited to announce the San Diego Padres have confirmed a deal worth $700,000 with 16-year-old Franmil Reyes, a top prospect out of the Dominican Republic. The Padres have been scouting the young outfielder since 2010 and agreed to terms earlier this week. Over the past two years, Franmil has gained national and international recognition and this past August our scouts selected him to the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory.
Last March Franmil was selected to the Dominican Prospect League Elite Travel Team, giving him the opportunity to travel to Arizona and Florida during Major League Spring Training. Following the MLB Spring Training experience, Franmil continued to show top raw power and consistent, quality at-bats. His hard work paid off and he was selected to the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory, which took place at historic Wrigley Field this past August. During the event Franmil qualified for the Home Run Derby finals after a strong display in the preliminary rounds, launching five monster homeruns at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He was eliminated in the first round of the derby but showed solid at-bats during the game, going 2 for 4 with a run scored. His strong performance, matched with a 6’4, 190lb frame comparable to Jermaine Dye, garnered a lot of attention from scouts. Not to mention his skill set, which can be described as having a lot of up-side and overall projection. Franmil possesses above average arm strength, fielding ability and raw power. His hands are quick through the zone and he generates good bat speed and squares up pitches with authority. He will only continue to improve and as the Padres confirmed with their offer, Franmil has a bright future ahead of him.
Baseball Factory would like to congratulate Franmil on taking the next step towards Building His Way To Greatness. We wish him the best of luck and continued success as he begins his professional career with the San Diego Padres.
