Check Other Years of the Cape Cod Classic

31 players from eight different states named to roster.  Five more players will be announced in the coming weeks.

Columbia, MD, June 28, 2005 – Baseball Factory and Team One announce that thirty-one top prospects from eight different states have been selected to play in the inaugural Cape Cod High School Classic on July 29, 2005 in Wareham, Massachusetts. Five more players will be announced to the squad in the coming weeks. 

The High School Classic will showcase the most talented high school rising seniors and juniors from across the nation and around the world.  The Cape Cod Baseball League will serve as official host for the game, providing a historic setting for this event.

The Cape Cod High School Classic will precede the Cape Cod League’s annual All-Star Game which will take place on July 30 in Hyannis, MA.  By hosting the High School Classic at the Cape Cod League, scouts will be able to watch the best high school players followed by the best college players on consecutive days.  All High School Classic players will be honored during the opening ceremonies at the Cape All-Star Game.

Inaugural Baseball Express Cape Cod High School Classic Presents MVP Awards
Home Run Derby Champion wins in a tie-breaker

Baseball Factory presented two MVP awards at the inaugural Baseball Express Cape Cod High School Classic presented by PUMA, which took place on July 29 in Wareham, Massachusetts.  The MVP Awards were given to the outstanding players on both the East and West squads.  The MVP award of Baseball Factory East was named after Judy Scarafile, the president of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The MVP award of Team One West was named after John Wylde, the general manager of the Wareham Gateman of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

  • MVP of Team One West (John Wylde Award) presented to Chris Parmelee, Chino Hills (CA) HS, 1B/LHP
  • Baseball Express Home Run Derby Champion – Devin Shepherd, Oxnard Union (CA) HS, OF

The home run derby participants from the Team One West team were: Nick Akins (CA), Chris Parmelee (CA), Jonathan Edwards (TX), and John Tolisano (FL). The players from the Baseball Factory East team were Gabe Cohen (CA), David Christensen (FL), Aaron Miller (TX), and Devin Shepherd (CA).  Parmelee and Shepherd advanced to the finals, with Shepherd winning the home run derby in a tie-breaker (both players tied with three homers apiece in the regular finals match-up).

About the Cape Cod Baseball League
The Cape Cod Baseball League has been regarded as the premier amateur baseball league in the nation since 1885.  Some 250 ballplayers from colleges and universities across the country are recruited each year to play on the 10 teams of the Cape Cod League.  These players are hosted by local families and compete in front of large crowds eager to see future major leaguers playing baseball at its purest form.  In 2004 alone, 197 former Cape Cod League players graced the roster of a Major League team. Over 33% of the Major League Baseball players that went to college competed in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
