14 Former Baseball Factory Get Nod for the Mid-Summer Classic

The 80th Major League Baseball All-Star Game is set to take place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri tonight at 8 PM E.T. Baseball Factory and Team One are proud to announce that fourteen roster spots for this year’s game were earned by alumni.  We would like to congratulate our former players who were chosen to represent their individual teams, and will be competing tonight. They are; Mark Teixeira, Josh Hamilton, Aaron Hill, Roy Halladay, Zack Greinke, Justin Verlander, Ryan Braun, David Wright, Zach Duke, Brian McCann, Prince Fielder, Orlando Hudson, Ryan Zimmerman, and Justin Upton.

Starting at first base for the American League is former Team One participant Mark Teixeira, who will be making his second All-Star Game appearance. Teixeira represented the Rangers in 2005, but will play as a Yankee in tonight’s game.  Teixeira was 1-for-3 in the Mid Summer Classic at Detroit’s Comerica Park, including a sixth-inning two-run homerun.  He is the first Yankee first baseman selected to start an All-Star game since Jason Giambi in 2004 and hopes to build on the success of his previous All-Star game appearance.

Josh Hamilton, who you might remember for his stand-out performance in last year’s Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium, will be representing the Texas Rangers at the All-Star Game for the second time in his Major League career.  Hamilton, a Team One National participant, earned the starting center field position despite an injury-plagued first half of the season.

After suffering a serious concussion that caused him to miss the majority of the 2008 season, Aaron Hill has made a tremendous comeback in 2009 and earned a starting spot on the American League roster.  The Blue Jays’ second baseman secured the first All-Star Game appearance of his career by leading all fellow second basemen in numerous offensive categories.  Aaron participated in Baseball Factory’s College Recruiting Program while in high school, helping him make the transition to Louisiana State University.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ Roy Halladay earned the nod as starting pitcher for the American League in this year’s Mid-Summer Classic. Another Team One alumnus, Halladay is making his sixth All-Star Game appearance.  Despite missing sixteen days in June with a groin injury, Halladay has an impressive 106 K’s in 116 innings pitched to go along with a 10-3 record.

Ryan Braun earned his second straight All-Star Game appearance, becoming only the second player in Milwaukee’s history to do so. Braun, a former Team One National player, put up impressive numbers in June hitting .345 with 34 extra-base hits and 25 RBI’s.

For the third time in four years, the New York Mets’ David Wright will make the start at third base for the National League.  Entering the All-Star break, Wright boasts a league leading .342 average including 44 RBI’s, five homeruns and 56 runs scored.  Another former Team One National player, the speedy infielder swiped 20 bags through the first half of the season.  Wright also participated in various events with Baseball Factory including the Pre-Season All-America Tournament.

Baseball Factory and Team One would like to congratulate all of our former players competing tonight in the Major League All-Star Game, and appreciate the dedication and hard work that has created tonight’s challenging match-up.
