16 Factory Alumni on Collegiate Baseball’s 2nd Team Preseason All American Team

In what has become the norm, sixteen different Baseball Factory Alumni have been named to Collegiate Baseball’s Preseason All-American 2nd team, in addition to the seven who were named to the 1st team. While all sixteen of these players look to build on the outstanding seasons that they had last year, four players stood out as ones to watch starting in early February.

J.B. Bukauskas – RHP, University of North Carolina

J.B. Bukauskas became a household name in the scouting community when he hit 100 MPH on the gun in his senior year of high school. He further added to his lore when he sent a letter to all 30 MLB teams asking them to not draft him, as he had full intentions of honoring his college commitment to UNC-Chapel Hill. As a freshman, Bukauskas went 5-3 with a 4.09 ERA in 14 starts. Over the 72 2/3 innings he pitched, he compiled 67 strikeouts to just 30 walks.

Bukauskas first came to a National Tryout back in 2013, where he hit 87 MPH, displaying a fluid delivery that allowed him to add over 10 MPH to his fastball, turning him into a must watch for power pitching fanatics.

JJ Schwarz – C, University of Florida

JJ Schwarz arrived in Gainesville with a bang in 2015, being named to a First-Team Freshman All American by almost every media outlet and scoring a place on numerous publications Second-Team All American, in addition to being the SEC Tournament MVP and the Most Outstanding Player of the Gainesville NCAA Regional. While Schwarz did not quite replicate his stellar debut campaign, the sophomore started all 68 games in 2016 and hit .290 with 60 RBI and 47 runs scored. He displayed plenty of pop for a catcher, swatting seven homers in addition to three triples and 15 doubles.

His slash line of .290/.397/.456, along with his zero errors for the year give both scouts and fans reason to look forward to seeing what Schwarz does in what is likely his final year as a Gator. Schwarz attended the 2012 Under Armour Fall Classic and 2013 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic.

Pavin Smith

Pavin Smith- 1B, University of Virginia

Pavin Smith followed up his incredible freshman year with what could be argued as an even better year in 2016 as a sophomore, despite not receiving the same recognition. His slash line of .329/.410/.513, coupled with eight homers, 16 doubles and 57 RBIs was good enough to be named Second-Team All-ACC at first base. Smith, a 2014 32nd round draft pick, went to three notable events with Factory, including the 2012 Team One Futures Series East where he showed outstanding hitting ability with a fluid stroke due to his quick hands.

Smith also attended both the 2013 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic and the 2013 Under Armour Fall Classic, where his advanced approach stood out in a talented field. Smith will look to continue his rise up draft boards throughout the 2017 campaign.

Kramer Robertson

Kramer Robertson- SS, LSU

Kramer Robertson returns for what will be his senior season in 2017 after being a 32nd round draft pick of Cleveland in the 2016 MLB draft. The shortstop (who also started seven games at 2B in 2016) hit .324 over the course of 2016, but he showed up even more when the lights got bright, hitting .363 in SEC play. Robertson also swatted 2 homers, 2 triples and 20 doubles to go along with 39 RBI, 60 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. Robertson came to a Team One South event back in 2011, where it was obvious that he was going to be a star. He ran a 7.17 60 and displayed soft hands and a rocket arm.

Offensively, he showed a very balanced approach with quick hands and a swing that played to all fields. Being a senior in one of the most prestigious programs in college baseball, Robertson is primed for a stellar senior season.
