2009 Playoff Preview: Baseball Factory and Team One Alumni Battle in the Postseason

With 162 games (163 for the Twins and Tigers) officially in the books, we can now turn our attention to the post-season.  After an exciting final day of the season, the dust has settled, leaving eight teams to take their chance at post-season glory.   Baseball Factory is proud to announce that all eight teams in the 2009 MLB postseason are represented by Team One and Baseball Factory alumni.  In total, there are 30 former Baseball Factory and Team One players competing for the title of World Series Champion.

In the National League, a Division Series rematch from 2007 has the Colorado Rockies set to face the defending World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies.  The defending champs enter the post-season with perhaps the most questions marks, but former Team One participant, Brett Myers, has returned from the disabled list with hopes to solidify the pitching staff and help the Phillies repeat their championship from last year.  The Rockies, hoping to avenge their oh-so-close 2007 season will take the field with five Baseball Factory and Team One alumni on their roster.   Baseball Factory alumni Aaron Cook, an All-Star in 2008, and Huston Street, former Rookie of the Year in 2005, will try to lead the Rockies to their second World Series appearance in three years.

The St. Louis Cardinals, winners of the NL Central Division, square off against the West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers to determine who will advance to the League Championship Series.  With the help of Baseball Factory alumni A.J. Ellis and Orlando Hudson, the Dodgers look to defeat the Cardinals for a chance to compete for the National League pennant for the second straight year.   A strong St. Louis team, backed by four Baseball Factory and Team One alumni including Brendan Ryan and Rick Ankiel, stand in the way of the Dodgers quest.

After playing 12 innings in Game 163, the Minnesota Twins clinched the American League Central Division and a playoff match-up against the heavily favored New York Yankees.  The Twins boast six Baseball Factory and Team One alumni, including Michael Cuddyer, whose leadoff triple in the bottom of the tenth inning in Game 163 helped keep the Twins playoff hopes alive.   They will face the Yankees, a formidable opponent entering the playoffs with 103 wins, the most in the Majors this year.  The Yankees are led by Baseball Factory and Team One alumni, including Game 1 starter C.C. Sabathia and slugging first baseman Mark Teixeira, who led the league in RBI’s during the regular season.
The Boston Red Sox, American League Wild Card Champions, will go head-to-head with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, both teams looking to better their playoff efforts of 2008.  Baseball Factory and Team One participant Rocco Baldelli hopes to draw on his postseason experience from last year and help the Red Sox move on to the League Championship Series.  The Angels, with the help of Baseball Factory Alumni Bobby Wilson, Mike Napoli, Jeff Mathis and Kevin Jepsen, are looking to defeat the Sox and play more games this October.

Look for Baseball Factory and Team One alumni to contribute to their team’s efforts this postseason.  We wish them the best of luck throughout the playoffs!
