2010 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Honorable Mention: 2010 Grads

2010 Graduates – Honorable Mention

There were many tremendous players who participated in the 2010 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America. Although choosing just a few to recognize is a difficult task, we have relied on the expertise of our scouts to determine the following categories: Top 10 2010 Prospects, Honorable Mention 2010 Prospects, Top 10 2011 Prospects, Honorable Mention 2011 Prospects, Top 5 2012 Prospects. The lists are based on a combination of performance at the event and our scouts’ projection of each player’s ability. Congratulations to all who participated on a great event.

Derek Blankenship – SS, 5-10/160, R/R, 2010, Baker HS, Baker, OR
A polished all around shortstop with a high baseball IQ. Shows sure hands and a quick exchange in the field along with a short, level stroke at the plate.

Spencer Castro – C, 6-0/205, R/R, 2010, Coral Reef HS, Homestead, FL
Strong, durable catcher with plus arm that leads to sub 2.0 times to 2B and a right-handed bat with above average bat speed and present power.

Bryce Cherry – 1B, 5-11/195, L/R, 2010, Atascadero HS, Atascadero, CA
A left-handed hitting 1B with a strong frame, a feel for the barrel and some juice who is very smooth around the bag at 1B and makes all of his infielders better.

Thomas Durkin – RHP, 6-3/160, R/R, 2010, Victor J. Andrew HS, Tinley Park, IL
Tall and lean on the mound with a loose, quick arm. Fastball sits comfortably in the high 80s with downhill plane and more velocity to follow as he fills out.

Ethan Gold – LHP, 5-11/193, L/L, 2010, Round Rock HS, Round Rock, TX
Featured one of the best breaking balls at the event – a sharp, biting curveball that buckled hitters’ knees. Add in a solid change and hitters’ fear of the off-speed stuff makes his 83-86 mph FB appear harder.

Casey Greene – RHP/SS, 6-2/175, R/R, 2010, DeSoto Central HS, Olive Branch, MS
Very athletic 2-way player with smooth, clean arm action and a fastball that touches 90 mph. Solid at SS as well with a line drive stroke. Committed to the University of Mississippi.

Jordan Heald-Mullins – SS/OF, 6-2/170, R/R. 2010, Heritage HS, Brentwood, CA
A gifted athlete with smooth actions who can play nearly anywhere on the field. A table-setter at the plate with the hands and arm to play SS and the range and instincts to play CF at the next level. Committed to Fresno State University.

Chance Jones – C, 6-3/205, R/R, 2010, Pine View HS, St. George, UT
An imposing physical specimen with soft hands, quick feet and a plus arm. Routinely gets the ball to 2B in under 2.0 seconds and drives the ball to all fields at the plate. Committed to the US Naval Academy.

Brent Krauss – RHP, 6-2/185, R/R, 2010, Venice HS, Venice, FL
A strike-thrower who pounds the bottom of the zone with an upper 80s fastball. Also mixes in a curveball and change and is not afraid to pitch inside. Committed to Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Aaron LeBron – 3B, 6-2/200, R/R, 2010, Clarkstown North HS, Congers, NY
A strong 3B with soft, sure hands and feet that work very well in the field. Balanced at the plate with a repeatable stroke and the ability to drive balls.

Colby Neal-Tan – OF, 6-0/191, R/R, 2010, Tesoro HS, Trabuco Canyon, CA
An athlete with that rare speed and power mix – runs the 60 in 6.75 and has the ability to hit the ball out of any part of the park.

Jacob Reese – C, 5-11/185, R/R, 2010, Chatham Glenwood HS, Rochester, IL
A strong, polished catcher with advanced receiving and blocking skills and a strong, accurate arm with on-line carry. Uses the whole field out of a balanced approach at the plate. Committed to Eastern Illinois University.

Jake Taylor – 1B/RHP, 6-4/230, R/R, 2010, Good Counsel HS, Ellicott City, MD
A big, physical 1B who shows athleticism in the field and serious power at the plate. Also touched 89 on the mound out of a low-effort delivery. Committed to Radford University.

Erik Wahburn – RHP, 6-0/175, R/R, 2010, Gramby Memorial HS, East Hartland, CT
RHP who throws four pitches for strikes. Sneaky fastball has some tail and sits in the mid to upper 80s while his change has enough deception that he can use it as an out pitch. Committed to US Military Academy.

Sean Washington – OF, 5-11/185, R/R, 2010, Bellaire HS, Houston, TX
True athletic CF with plus arm and range (6.67 in the 60) that also has some pop at the plate. Can be a game-changer on both offense and defense.

Nic Wilson – 1B, 6-6/220, R/R, 2010, Decatur HS, Decatur, GA
A raw, physical young man with outstanding upside. Athleticism is evident in everything that he does and has power to all fields that will continue to develop – middle of the order run producer in the future.
