Meadows kept his hands back nicely a served a breaking ball sharply into left field, it caromed around in the corner and resulted in a stand up triple. Tying run now at third base with one out.

Clint Frazier swung through another filthy change first pitch, this one 79mph. An attempt a doubling up on the change was blocked nicely by Navarreto, as was the breaking ball that followed it. Frazier took Morales' next fastball off the ivy in right center for a double, this scored Meadows fom third and put the winning run on second base with one out.

The first pitch to KJ Woods got past Navarreto, allowing Frazier to advance to third base. Navarreto blocked another changeup in the dirt, but appeared to get crossed up when the next pitch went over his head to the backstop at 92mph. Frazier scored to put the American team up 7-6. Woods now ahead in the count 3-1 with one out and nobody on. After a brief battle, Woods worked a walk.

Jonathan Denney again swung at the first pitch, this time for a foul ball out of play straight back. He is an aggressive hitter early in the count, at least on this day. His hands were lightning quick to the zone on an 89mph fastball from Morales, this time for a sharp single to left field.

The fourth consecutive left handed hitter to face the LHP Aiken, Dominic Smith took at 68mph curve for strike one.  Smith kept his hands back on a 1-1 breaking ball for a single up the middle that may have broken his bat.

Back to the top of the order to start the third, Clint Frazier stands in against LHP Trey Ball. Ball's first offering is an 89mph fastball, fouled down the LF line. Frazier in two at bats has swung at two first pitch fastballs. The next strike he sees he also offers at, this time for a sharp line drive off Jan Hernandez's glove and over into LF bullpen area – resulting in a leadoff double.

Chris Rivera fouled off an 88mph fastball on 3-2, then took ball four on an 87mph fastball down and in. Runners at 1B and 2B with nobody out, Austin Meadows coming to the plate.

Ball doesn't give any hitters a comfortable look, most certainly not any left handed hitter. Left handed hitting Meadows took a 78mph curve for strike one, then flied out to CF off the label on another one at 76.

Ball reached back for a 91mph fastball to even the count with Zack Collins at 1-1. Collins eventually works the count for a walk, laying off two 89mph fastballs down and away at 2-2 and 3-2.

Martarano swings at a first pitch fastball, fouls it straight back. Good change at 81mph from Ball misses low and away for ball one. Ball retires Martarano with a 73mph breaking ball to the bottom of the zone, swinging strikeout to end the inning.

Bottom 2nd

PITCHER:  Dustin Driver – RHP, Wentachee (WA) HS

After a busy day already, throwing out two would be base stealers in the first two innings, Brian Navarreto stands in to start the bottom of the second. After turning an 89mph fastball around for a sharp liner fould down the LF line, Navarreto settles for a walk.

Jan Hernandez fouls off a first pitch fastball from Driver, who continues to be aggressive to the zone early in the count. Two consecutive breaking balls follow, at 74-75, Navarreto is running on the second one – which isn't a great pitch for Ciuffo to throw on, Navarreto safe at 2B. Hernandez works the count well, and also walks. Runners at 1B and 2B, 0 out.

Lewin Diaz stands in next from the left side, and takes another breaking ball out of the bottom of the zone. 1-0 fastball catches the outside corner with some sizzle to even the count. Driver reached back for some more on 2-1, gets a 91mph fastball by Diaz to even the count again. Count gets to full after a near miss at 91 on inner half, before what looked like a good two seamer Diaz foul tipped into the mitt for strike three.

With one out and runners at 1B and 2B, Lucas Tirado comes to the plate. He works the count in his favor 2-0 before a sharp single to LF on a 90mph fastball from Driver. Tirado swung the bat very well at times the last two days during batting practice, this swing was also a good one – remember, he is only 15 years old.

Oscar Mercado is next to the plate, broken bat ground ball to JP Crawford at 2B was hit too softly for a double play. 4-3 groundout pushes the first run of the game across.

Hunter Harvey hits for himself with two out, swings at first pitch and hits a one hop liner to Chris Rivera at SS, throw is in the dirt and not picked at 1B – it was a tough play all around.

Terry McClure stands in with two outs, works count to 2-0 before 3-0 pitch gets by Ciuffo allowing runners to move up. Runners at 2B and 3B with two outs. Driver sends ball four over the head of Ciuffo, allowing another run across for the National team.

Crawford takes an 89 mph fastball for strike one. Harvey's fastball has good down plane, and he has kept the ball down in the zone well. His arm works with quickness and life out front, allowing him to generate tight spin on his breaking ball in the low 70s. Crawford took a backdoor curve from Harvey for strike three, ending the top of the second.
