Arizona Wildcats continue dominant pitching performances in Omaha
‘Zona’s pitching has been on fire, feeling right at home at TD Ameritrade Park the last few seasons. According to the NCAA website, an Arizona starter has thrown at least seven complete innings in eight straight games in Omaha since 2012. That has continued with impressive outings from Nathan Bannister and Bobby Dalbec, who have thrown seven and eight innings respectively, combining for just two earned runs allowed in this year’s CWS.
On Wednesday night, the Wildcats defeated UC-Santa Barbara, 3-0 to move on, facing the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Cowboys have had a bit of a layoff, having not played since Monday when they defeated Arizona, 1-0. The Cowboys put together an outstanding game with great defense and superb pitching to move on.
The No.2 seed Arizona Wildcats, who defeated the Miami Hurricanes for the Super Regional Championship, earn a rematch against the Cowboys at 2:00 PM EST today (Friday) on ESPN2 in a best-of-three series to determine who will go to the CWS Finals. Arizona will have to beat the Cowboys in consecutive games to move on while Coastal will have to do the same against TCU, who defeated the Chants in the second round on Tuesday. Tonight’s TCU/Coastal matchup is at 8:00 PM EST on ESPN.
