2018 Corner Infield Standouts From Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament

Nolan Gorman came in at the #1 spot on the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament’s Top 10 2018 list, but he wasn’t the only third baseman who showed well in Arizona. Here are a few more who stood out to our scouts.

Alex Binelas

Louisville commit Alex Binelas was very impressive all weekend. The big 6’3” left-handed hitter took an excellent batting practice and showed the same offensive ability in game play. The ball came off his bat hard to all fields, producing a double and triple against quality pitching. In addition to the run-producing bat, Alex ran a 6.76 in the 60.

Paul Komistek

Another strong, athletic third baseman who had a big tournament was Paul Komistek. The University of Tennessee commit is an outstanding defender with sure hands and natural actions. At the plate he had a triple and inside-the-park HR driving in five runs, and running a 6.94 for good measure.

UCLA commit Jack Filby was another third baseman that showed high-level hitting ability. With great feel for the barrel he went 3-for-5 with a walk and showed the ability to play multiple infield positions. Another versatile defender who caught scouts’ attention was Jaden Fein. Tall and lean, he can play either corner IF spot as well as the OF. His right-handed swing has bat whip and should help San Diego State, where he is committed.

Keylon Mack

Finally, Miguel Lavin, from Lake Worth, Florida stood out in all facets. He is an excellent hitter with balance, barrel accuracy and pull power. He is also an excellent defender with a big arm across the diamond.

In addition to top 10 performer, John Malcom, two other first basemen deserve a mention.

Keylon Mack from Gladewater, Texas can just flat out hit. He has a thick, powerful frame with great rhythm and hands. The left-handed hitter went 3-for-5 in games showing great pitch recognition as well the ability to react to off-speed stuff. He uses the whole field well and has pull power.

Finally, Beau Walters from Clermont, Florida showed a strong, aggressive right-handed approach. He tripled to deep center field after an impressive batting practice filled with loud contact.

It’s easy to envision this group of corner infielders making an impact at the next level. In the meantime, expect them to put up some big number this spring for their respective high schools.
