There’s a lot to like about Stanford commit, and Ramona High School stand-out, Derek Diamond.
He’s extremely athletic with a 6’2″, 185-pound frame and natural actions everywhere on the field. While he runs a sub-6.7 60-yard dash and flashes exit velocities over 90 mph, the most exciting aspect of Derek’s game is on the mound. His athleticism shows through in a coordinated delivery with excellent tempo, and his arm swing is free and on-time. He certainly has the look of a long-term starter featuring a fastball in the low 90s with some late action, a curve that has good shape and bite, and a change that he has a solid feel for.
Derek throws a high volume of strikes and he competes on the mound the way you would expect him to – after all, he is QB of his HS football team as well. It will be fun to watch him take the mound at Wrigley Field.
