24 Baseball Factory Alumni Debut in 2012
The 2012 season marked the Major League debut for 24 Baseball Factory alumni. These players made their respective debuts for 18 different teams. Leading the way were the Chicago Cubs, with five former Baseball Factory players making their debut including: Adrian Cardenas, Brett Jackson, Brooks Raley, Jeff Beliveau and Josh Vitters. A few additional organizations called on multiple Baseball Factory alumni this season, including the Cincinnati Reds, Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals.
In the midst of their historic season, the Nationals called up Christian Garcia and Rookie of the Year candidate Bryce Harper. Harper, selected first overall in the 2010 amateur draft, made his memorable Major League debut this past April when he doubled in the go-ahead run in the 9th inning. Harper’s path to the Majors was quick, having spent one full season in the Nationals minor league system after only one year at the College of Southern Nevada. Baseball Factory scouts first took note of Harper in 2008 when he was the standout player at an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Las Vegas, NV. Also making his debut for the Nationals this year was Christian Garcia, who was a Pre-Season All-American and Team One South participant.
Sean Doolittle, a 2007 1st round draft pick, made his Major League debut with the Oakland Athletics earlier this year. Doolittle was drafted as a first baseman, but his Major League debut was as a relief pitcher. After a slew of injuries Doolittle turned to pitching and just two months after his professional pitching debut he got the call to the Majors. Doolittle has been building his way to greatness since his start at Baseball Factory's Premium Video Program in 2002.
Adrian Cardenas, a first round pick in 2006, made his MLB debut with the Cubs this year. Adrian participated in the 2005 Cape Cod Classic, now the Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory, which helped put him on the map. After being traded to the Cubs in 2008, he finally got his chance this season and to-date played in 44 games for Chicago.
Stephen Vogt, a 12th round draft selection in 2007, made his Major League debut this season with the Tampa Bay Rays. As a high school player Stephen participated in Baseball Factory’s Exclusive College Recruiting Program, designed to help players through every step of the college recruiting process. Stephen attended numerous events while enrolled in the program, including the Pre-Season All-American Tournament. After five years in the Minor Leagues, Stephen finally got the call in April for the Rays.
Other Baseball Factory alumni to make their Major League debut this season include Cody Allen, Cory Burns, Carter Capps, Robert Carson, Kevin Mattison, Mike Olt, Dan Otero, A.J. Pollock, Tyler Thornburg, Shawn Tolleson, Mike Costanzo, Darin Downs, Blake Lalli, Todd Redmond and LJ Hoes.
Baseball Factory would like to congratulate all 24 alumni on getting the call this season, and we wish them continued success at the MLB level!
