Houston Astros Top Prospect Alex Bregman Hitting His Stride in Majors
We’ve written a lot about Baseball Factory alumnus Alex Bregman this year, including here, here and here.
Bregman was a star shortstop in college at LSU before being a top prospect with the Houston Astros. About a month ago, the Astros called Bregman up from Triple-A Fresno. Bregman has mostly played third base for the Astros, as another youngster with a bright future, Carlos Correa is currently at shortstop.
Bregman got off to a slow start to begin his MLB career, but over the last two weeks, though, Bregman is more than proving his spot in the big leagues. In his last 13 games, the No. 2 hitter for the ‘Stros is slashing .316/.355/.561.
In Bregman’s first 18 games he didn’t hit a home run. In his last six games, he has three home runs and nine RBI for a .393/.414/.786 and a 1.200 OPS.
Bregman capped off his great week with two outstanding games against the Orioles on Friday and Saturday night. In a 15-8 win over Baltimore on Friday night, Bregman went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two RBI. The following day, Bregman delivered big for Houston again in a slugfest. In a game that featured Houston winning 12-2, Bregman led the charge, going 3-for-6 with a home run, a double and three RBI.
Baseball Factory coaches first saw Bregman at the 2009 Team One Futures Game. Bregman also played in the Under Armour Preseason All-America Tournament in both 2010 and 2011 and was a star at LSU, transitioning from catcher to one of the best shortstops in the nation, named a 2015 First-Team All-American by Baseball America. Bregman was the second overall pick in last year’s Draft.
