Alumni Impact #3: Standouts in Majors, College, Potential Top Draft Picks at High School Level

Follow along with us this season as we keep up with current and former Baseball Factory players who are making an impact on their team’s success. We will keep you up-to-date on the latest standout performances at the major league, collegiate and high school levels.

Major Leagues

George-Springer

George Springer – (2007 Cape Cod High School Classic) Springer’s highly touted skills came to the majors last season for the Houston Astros, as he belted 20 home runs in only 78 games, finishing 8th in American League Rookie of the Year honors. This spring, he’s off to a fast start with a .324 average (12-for-37) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and five RBI. Springer has solidified himself as the Astros starting right fielder on Opening Day 2015.

Mike Leake – (Team One West 2004, 2005) Two seasons ago, Leake won 14 games for the Cincinnati Reds and he’s been lights out for the Reds this spring, to the tune of a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings this spring. He’s allowed only one earned run and has struck out 10 batters during his work. Leake will start the season as the team’s No. 3 starter.

College

TaylorClarkeTaylor Clarke – (Premium Video Program) Clarke had quite an outing on March 7th against Radford, breaking a 20-year old College of Charleston strikeout record when he fanned 18 batters in a 3-1 victory. In addition to the strikeouts, Clarke threw his first career nine-inning complete game, allowing one run, five hits and zero walks. This season, Clarke paces the Cougars with a 4-1 record and a 2.27 ERA with 55 strikeouts and only eight walks.

DJ Stewart – (Team One South 2011) Last weekend in the ‘Noles series against Virginia, Stewart was walked seven times in just three games. Despite that, he still hit three homers and drove in nine, going 5-for-9 in Florida State’s series win. This season, Stewart is hitting .304 with 9 home runs and 25 RBI to lead Florida State who find themselves with a record of 19-6 so far this season.

Eric Hsieh – (Ryan Lemmon Foundation Showcase 2009) Hsieh, a left-handed pitcher for the Yale Bulldogs of the Ivy League has only seen two innings of work this season. It’s his bat that is doing the talking. Hsieh leads all of Division I with a .525 batting average. That’s no misprint. Hsieh is batting .525 this season. He is 21-for-40 in 11 games with three doubles, five RBI and a team leading 13 runs scored.

High School

Brendan RodgersBrendan Rodgers – (2013 Under Armour Futures Series East, 2014 Under Armour All-American) It’s very possible Rodgers, who hails from Longwood, FL, could be the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s MLB Draft. Rodgers, a senior, stands at 6’1″ and 200 pounds and is mashing the baseball for Lake Mary High School, leading the team with five home runs.

Demi OrimoloyeDemi Orimoloye – (2014 Under Armour All-American) Orimoloye is a Canadian prospect who played very well for the Canadian Jr. National Team against the New York Yankees recently. Demi went 2-for-4 with a HR and two RBI and also threw a runner out at third base from the outfield. The Nigerian-born Orimoloye’s stock is rising and the 6’4″, 225-pound slugger is an unbelievable athlete, being compared to “watching Bo Jackson again” according to one American League scout.

Beau BurrowsBeau Burrows – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout,  2012 Team One Futures Series Texas, 2014 Under Armour All-American) Burrows is from Weatherford High School in Texas and was named to the First-Team 2015 Pre-Season All-America Team by Baseball America. He’s been downright dominant in his outings, touching 96 mph with his fastball. He has committed to Texas A&M, but is making his case for the top High School right-handed pitcher in the country that could be drafted early in the first round.
