Alumni Impact: Baseball Factory Players Impact In Early Season Action

The college baseball season began over the weekend, and with it came some stand-out performances from Baseball Factory alumni. Here are a few players who got their season off to a great start.

Appalachian State Freshman Jaylin Davis (2011 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) homered on the first pitch he saw of his college career. His 3-run HR off of NC State’s Carlos Rodon (the top 2014 pitcher in the country) helped ASU to a 6-3 upset of the #8 ranked Wolfpack. Preston Troutman (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) also homered in the win.

Vanderbilt, #2 ranked, started the season strong with back-to-back victories over Long Beach State. Kevin Ziomek (2009 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, 2008 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) earned the win in Game 1 with seven strikeouts over six innings, allowing only one run. Tyler Beede (2009 Team One North Showcase, 2009 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) was the Game 2 winner going five innings, also allowing only one run and striking out three.

LSU, ranked 10th in the country, was also off to a fast start. Aaron Nola (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) threw 6 2/3 shutout innings and struck out nine in a season-opening 1-0 victory over the University of Maryland. The lone tiger run was driven in by freshman Alex Bregman (2011,2010 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, 2009 Team One Futures West). In the 3rd game of the series (another LSU win) Bregman went 3-3 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI. In that game, Ty Ross (2007 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) broke that game open with a 3-run HR and JaCoby Jones (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) went 2-3 with a HR, three runs scored and two RBI.

Top junior pitcher Bobby Wahl (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for his victory over #14 TCU to begin the season. Wahl threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings for the University of Mississippi allowing only three hits and striking out eight.

Cole Irvin (2011 Under Armour All-America Game) began his college career in style. Making his first collegiate start for #15 ranked University of Oregon, Cole beat the University of Hawaii going seven strong innings allowing five hits and striking out four.

The University of Minnesota shocked #12 UCLA over the weekend with a 6-2 upset. In the win for the Golden Gophers, junior Bobby Juan (2009 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) had an RBI double and scored the tying run in the 7th setting up the extra inning victory. For the three game series, Juan went 5-11 with two 2B and two RBI.

In a lopsided victory over Seton Hall, Benton Moss (2010 Under Armour All-America Game) led top-ranked UNC to the win by throwing Five IP allowing two hits and one run while striking out seven. Freshman Landon Lassiter (2011 Team One South, 2010 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) paced the offense going 4 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Alabama freshman Mikey White (2011 Under Armour All-America Game, 2010 Team One Futures East, 2012 Team One South) is off to an outstanding collegiate start. Through his first four games (all Alabama wins) he is hitting .467 with five RBI, four R, three BB and three SB.

The University of Pittsburgh shocked the baseball world with a 3-game sweep of Wichita State to begin the season. The Shockers were 69-0 at home in the month of February under legendary Coach Gene Stephenson before the weekend. Ethan Mildren (2008 Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament, 2008 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) set the tone in Game 1 going seven innings and allowing only two runs while striking out nine. Contributing on offense throughout the weekend were AJ Lardo (2010 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, 2009 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) who went 6-13 with three RBI and three SB, Elvin Soto (2010 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, 2009 Team One Futures West, 2009 Arizona Junior Fall Classic, 2009 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) 4-14, 2B, 3B, four RBI and Eric Hess (2008 Team One North, 2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) 5-11 with a HR and five RBI.

Max Kra (Baseball Factory Exclusive College Recruiting Program, 2010, 2009 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, 2008 Baseball Factory Cape Cod Training) opened his collegiate career at Bucknell with a near-perfect relief appearance against the University of Richmond. Max threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out three.
