Baseball Factory Alumni Among Key Contributors in Opening Weekend of College World Series

The opening weekend of the College World Series did not disappoint, as all eight teams put up a fight, delivering four close games. Come from behind victories, early inning rallies, and dominant pitching performances highlighted the action packed Fathers Day weekend.

Oregon State, the number 1 seed in the tournament, started the action in game one Saturday with a four run come from behind victory to defeat Cal State Fullerton by a score of 6-5. Baseball Factory alum Jack Anderson was 3-for-3 with an RBI on the day, as a four run offensive explosion in the sixth inning by Oregon State tied the game at five. Trevor Larnach, who participated in the 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships, had a two run single during the breakout sixth inning. This was followed up by one of Anderson’s three hits, an RBI single, which tied it.

Anderson and Larnach were not done however, as in the eighth inning to complete the comeback, Larnach singled and was moved into scoring position when Anderson followed with a hit by pitch. This then set up the game winning hit that scored Larnach. For Cal State Fullerton, another Baseball Factory alum Chris Hudgins was one of the bright spots on the day offensively, having one of the team’s three hits while knocking in two runs as well. Oregon State (1-0) moves onto the winners bracket, as Cal State Fullerton (0-1) moves to the losers bracket.

Quincy Nieporte

In the second game of the night on Saturday, the LSU Tigers incredible roll continues as they defeated the Florida Gators 5-4 in come-back style at TD Ameritrade Park. It was the 17th straight victory for the Tigers and their 10th consecutive postseason victory. The No. 4 seed in the tournament now moves on to play Oregon State tonight at 6:00 PM.

With the score tied at 2 in the top of the 5th inning, Florida State’s Quincy Nieporte laced a single to left field to put the Seminoles up by a run. Nieporte attended seven Baseball Factory and Team One Showcase events, including the 2011 Team One Futures East, 2012 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic, Southeast Championships, Fall Classic and Firecracker Classic.

Greg Deichmann

Cleanup hitter and rightfielder for LSU, Greg Deichmann, made the most of his only hit of the night, driving in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth to break the 4-4 tie. Deichmann participated in the 2012 Team One Futures East Showcase and played in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game.

2013 Under Armour All-American Alex Lange started the game for the Tigers and pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Tyler Holton started on the hill for the Seminoles and kept his team in the game, getting into the seventh inning, allowing three earned runs, five overall, two walks and five strikeouts. Holton played in the 2013 Under Armour Fall Classic and the 2015 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic.

Nick Choruby

On Sunday, Louisville took care of business against Texas A&M, led by catcher Colby Fitch with two hits and four RBI and 2017 first round draft pick Brendan McKay pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs, striking out six for their first College World Series victory since 2007 and will play Florida on Tuesday night.

Fitch drove in four runs for the third time in his career, the first two coming in the Cardinals five-run second inning with a single that plated two and later in the eighth inning an RBI double that extended Louisville’s lead to 8-4. Fitch attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Kansas City, MO in 2011.

Texas A&M leadoff hitter and centerfielder, Nick Choruby had two hits and third baseman George Janca went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the loss. Choruby attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Salem, OR in 2011 and the 2012 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Janca attended a National Tryout in San Antonio, TX back in 2013.

Today’s matchups are: Florida State vs Cal State Fullerton and Oregon State vs LSU at 7:00 PM on ESPN.
