Baseball Factory Alumni Help Their Teams Walk-Off With Victories in College World Series

Baseball Factory alumni helped their teams to victory in yesterday’s College World Series games with walk-off hits and clutch pitching performances to get one step closer to the National Championship series.

The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks, 4-3 yesterday afternoon on a walk-off single in the 9th inning that eliminated the Razorbacks from the 2015 College World Series.

Former Under Armour All-American, Zack Collins helped the Canes cause, collecting the team’s first hit with a double that he scorched over the head of Factory alum and top Boston Red Sox pick, Andrew Benintendi in the fourth inning.

In the ninth with the game tied at 3, Willie Abreu, a Baseball Factory alum and former Team One participant, led off the inning with a double to the gap in center. The next batter, Jacob Heyward, laced a base hit to left center, plating Abreu with the winning run.

Miami goes on to face the Florida Gators on Wednesday evening at 8:00 P.M., EST. The Gators are attempting to stave off elimination after being shut out by the Virginia Cavaliers, 1-0 last night.

Brandon Waddell, a 2011 Under Armour Southwest Regional participant, shut down the Gators with a seven-inning performance, only allowing two hits, zero earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts. Waddell threw 105 pitches and the Cavalier bullpen closed out the final two innings to record the victory. Virginia has won the first two games in “Bracket Play” and move on to face the winner of Florida and Miami (FL) for the right to go to the National Championship Game.

On the other side of the bracket, the Vanderbilt Commodores walked off against Cal State Fullerton in a game that resumed on Monday after an overnight suspension and subsequent delay taking nearly 20 hours to complete.

Former Under Armour Pre-Season All-American selection, Jeren Kendall blasted a two-run, walk-off home run in the ninth inning to complete the three-run comeback, beating the Titans, 4-3. Vandy is one step closer to moving on and will face TCU tonight at 8:00 P.M., after TCU dismantled LSU over the weekend, 10-3.

Kendall’s walk off home run was the first in TD Ameritrade Park history and the first time its happened since 2009. He finished the game 2-for-4, with a double and that home run, his eighth of the season.

Titans’ designated hitter, David Olmedo-Barrera, a former Under Armour Baseball Factory Team One participant in 2011, went 1-for-4 with a double in the losing effort. Cal State Fullerton will face LSU this afternoon in the losers bracket to avoid elimination.
