Baseball Factory Alumni Impact #4: Dramatic Home Runs and Clutch Pitching Performances

Follow along with us this season as we keep up with current and former Baseball Factory players who are making an impact on their team’s success. We will keep you up-to-date on the latest standout performances at the major league, collegiate and high school levels.

Major Leagues

KrisBryantKris Bryant – (2008 Pre-Season All-American) The biggest story of Spring Training, Kris Bryant nearly made the Chicago Cubs 25-man roster with his outstanding showing, but will instead start the season with Triple-A Iowa. The 23-year old phenom hit nine home runs in 40 at-bats this Spring.

Bryant is not yet on the 40-man roster and can work on improving his defense during his stay in Iowa, which by all accounts will be very brief. New Cubs manager Joe Maddon said he is looking forward to working with Bryant, calling him a “brilliant talent.” The future is coming quickly in the Windy City.

Clint FrazierClint Frazier – (2012 Under Armour All-American) Frazier, the Cleveland Indians first round (5th overall) selection in 2013, played in his first Cactus League game on March 13th and hit a three-run home run in the third inning of a 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

The 20-year old prospect hasn’t played above Single-A ball, but has gained valuable experience this spring in his limited at-bats. After hitting .266 in 120 games last season with Lake County, Frazier could start 2015 with the High-A Carolina Mudcats with great extra-base hit potential and ability to get on base.

AlexJackson-200x300Alex Jackson – (2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2012, 2013 Under Armour All-American) Jackson, another All-American, was the second alumnus to hit a home run during his Cactus League debut. The Seattle Mariners prospect showed off his powerful swing against the Texas Rangers, hitting an opposite field home run off of Baseball Factory alumnus Shawn Tolleson, traveling over 400 feet.

Jackson doesn’t turn 20 until December 25th and will likely start the season at Single-A but showed the potential of what’s to come, scoring three runs, adding another hit and a walk to his spring totals. He’s currently battling shoulder soreness that has kept him out of action the last few games.

Against No. 10 Miami on March 29th, Moss picked up the victory, allowing one earned run and striking out four, moving into fourth in school history in strikeouts with 290.
