Baseball Factory Alumni Impact

Follow along with us this season as we keep up with current and former Baseball Factory alumni who are making an impact on their team’s success. We will keep you up-to-date on the latest standout performances at the major league, collegiate and high school levels. This week, we focus on players making an impact in the minor leagues, college and high school levels.

Minor League

Anthony Alford – (2011 Under Armour All-American) The Toronto Blue Jays selected Alford in the third round of the 2012 Draft and has advanced to Single-A Lansing this season as a 20-year-old outfielder.

In 30 games this season with Lansing, Alford is hitting .327 with 11 doubles and nine RBI. He’s also drawing walks at an increasing pace, leading the team with 30 free passes, also good for third in the Midwest League.

He brings value defensively as a centerfielder and was rated high by Baseball Factory evaluators during the 2011 All-America Game for his arm strength. He has only committed three errors in 28 games with 60 putouts in 64 total chances this season.

Gavin Cecchini – (2011 Under Armour All-American) Gavin has an older brother Garin who once was an Under Armour All-American, but the younger Cecchini is standing out on his own both offensively and defensively in the minor leagues.

Gavin was drafted 12th overall in the 2012 Draft by the New York Mets as a shortstop and the 6’2″ 200 pound hitter is settling in nicely for Double-A Binghamton this season.

He’s improved his average and hitting overall through the first 36 games for the Mets Double-A team, hitting .291 with nine doubles, a triple, four homers and 20 RBI to go along with 20 runs scored after hitting only .247 between three minor league teams in 2014.

College

RyanMeisingerRyan Meisinger – (Under Armour Baseball Factory Premium Video Program, 2011 Team One South Participant) Meisinger, a junior right-handed pitcher for Radford University has put together a nice season for the Highlanders who are the No. 2 seed in this year’s College World Series, facing off in a four-team, double-elimination regional that will be hosted by defending NCAA champ Vanderbilt.

Going 5-0 with a 1.75 ERA in 36.0 innings pitched this season, Meisinger struck out 62 batters while only walking seven, holding opponents to just a .186 batting average. He became the Highlanders closer in 2015, saving 15 games in 29 appearances.

The Dunkirk, MD native who attended Northern High School in Dunkirk earned Big South First-Team All-Conference honors in 2015, posting a 0.56 ERA in 12 Big South conference appearances this season.

GarrettBengeGarrett Benge – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American) Benge plays for Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas and the Tiger third baseman took home both Freshman of the Year and the Jayhawk East Most Valuable Player awards for an incredible season in 2015.

So incredible that he set school records as a freshman, (meanwhile obliterating the 2015 NJCAA ranks as well) in batting average (.502) doubles (26), RBI’s (97), runs scored (96) and hits (103). His 19 home runs were one off the all-time school record.

On May 10th, he also became the first Tiger to hit for the cycle, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and knocking in the winning run on a single that finished the “eight inning run-rule” in a 15-5 win over No. 8 Coffeyville Community College in the Region VI Tournament.

Benge paced the Tigers and helped them win a conference title, a No. 1 ranking and more than 50 wins for the team for the first time since 1998.

High School

Spencer Henson – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) Henson is a junior at Pryor High School in Pryor, OK and is getting the job done both with the bat and with his arm for the Tigers who went 26-9 overall this season.

Henson pitched to a 5-1 record and a 1.04 ERA with 44 strikeouts in only 27.0 innings pitched. With the bat, Henson was a force, hitting .490 with 16 doubles, eight homers and 57 RBI.

DanielYoungbloodIIDaniel Youngblood II – (Under Armour Baseball Factory Premium Video Program, Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City – 2013, 2015) Youngblood is a junior at Christian Academy of Greater St. Louis and is putting together a huge season for his high school team, hitting .733 with seven doubles, eight triples, 30 RBI, 34 runs scored and 33 stolen bases. He’s even chipped in to save a game, as well as strike out 18 batters in 10.0 innings pitched in 2015.

PeterLambertPeter Lambert – (2013 Under Armour Southwest Championship Participant, 2014 Under Armour Team One West Participant) The senior from San Dimas High School in California is part of a team that has gone undefeated in 2015 (29-0) and he was a major part of the reason they did not lose a game.

Lambert put up video game numbers, going 12-0 with a microscopic 0.37 ERA, eight complete games in those 12 starts, four of them being shutouts. He also struck out 106 batters in only 76.0 innings pitched. Lambert has committed to UCLA.
