Baseball Factory Alumni Notebook – Buddy Reed Walks It Off For Top-Ranked Florida

Each week in the Alumni Notebook, we will take a look back at the previous weekend’s action in College Baseball and bring you the latest on Baseball Factory alumni who are helping their teams with outstanding play. Steve Bernhardt, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Factory provides information on the Factory alumni.

Zack Collins (Miami) – Collins continues his scorching start for the sixth-ranked Hurricanes who swept a three-game series last weekend against the Manhattan Jaspers. Collins homered and drove in three runs in Miami’s 14-4 victory on Saturday and drove in three runs in a seven-run fourth inning that propelled the team to a 7-4 win. Zack is now hitting a team-leading .433, pacing the team with three homers, 13 RBI, 22 total bases and 13 walks, also leading the team.

Jonathan Hughes

Jonathan Hughes (Georgia Tech) – The Flowery Branch, GA native and 2013 Under Armour Futures Series East participant has been stellar so far for the Yellow Jackets in 2016. The right-hander tossed six innings, allowing his first run all season in the team’s 4-3 victory over Western Carolina on Sunday. He’s now 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA in 18 innings pitched.

Buddy Reed

Buddy Reed (Florida) – The Maryland native, who has spent time in the Baseball Factory cages last summer and this past December getting ready for the season, walked it off for the Gators with a 12th inning home run on Saturday night to defeat Dartmouth University, 4-3.

Florida, now 12-1 to start the season has been led by the sophomore outfielder from Finksburg, MD, hitting .314 with three doubles, two triples, a home run and seven RBI. He’s also stolen a team-leading six bases. Buddy attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event in Bowie, MD back in March of 2012 and participated in the Team One South Showcase in July of the same year.

Tate Blackman (Ole Miss) – The sophomore infielder leads the Rebels in hitting (.378) through the team’s first 11 games as Ole Miss is out to a 10-1 start. He’s scored 11 runs which leads the team, as does his four doubles to go along with a homer and 12 RBI. On Saturday in the team’s 8-2 victory over No. 18 Coastal Carolina, the 13th-ranked Rebels were led by Blackman, who doubled twice and recorded three RBI’s and is the team’s leader with five multi-hit games this season. Blackman was a 2012 Team One Futures Series East participant.

Zack Gahagan

Zack Gahagan (North Carolina) – The athletic corner infielder started 41 games during his freshman season in 2015 and he’s gotten off to a fast start for the Tarheels in 2016. In an 11-6 win over Winthrop, Gahagan helped the cause going 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. On Sunday in the Tarheels 11-0 victory over Fairfield, Gahagan went 2-for-2 with a run scored and is now hitting .370 with a double, a home run, three RBI and slugging .519 in nine games for sixth-ranked North Carolina. Gahagan attended our College PREP event in Charlotte, NC in October of 2011 and was a 2012 Team One Futures Series East participant.

Chris Andritsos (Oklahoma) – The Woodlands, TX native has been lights-out so far for the Sooners, pitching to a 2-0 record and an 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched in 2016. In his two starts, the freshman starter has held hitters to just an .054 batting average and has struck out 11 hitters to just two walks. Andritsos was a four-year letter winner under coach Ron Eastman at The Woodlands High School and attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Houston, TX in February of 2014.

Eric Filia

Eric Filia (UCLA) – The redshirt senior from Huntington Beach, CA unfortunately missed the last two seasons due to injury but is healthy and contributing to the Bruins winning ways in 2016. On Sunday night, UCLA faced their rival, the USC Trojans at Dodger Stadium and came out on top in a wild, 5-3, 14-inning victory and Filia helped the cause, going 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI. Overall this season, Filia leads the team in hitting with a .395 average, along with two doubles, triple, homer and team-leading 10 RBI in 11 games. Filia was a 2009 Ryan Lemmon Foundation Showcase attendee and attended the July 2010 College PREP event in Costa Mesa, CA
