Baseball Factory Alumni Notebook (Week of 2/25/19)
Each week in the Alumni Notebook, we look back at notable performances from around the game of baseball, across high school, collegiate and professional ranks. Steve Bernhardt, Chief Baseball Officer for Baseball Factory, provides information on the Factory alumni. With so many Baseball Factory alums off to hot starts, it’s time to recognize a few of them. Here are a few highlights from the early season so far:
MLB Spring Training
Lewis Brinson | OF | Miami Marlins
The former Under Armour All-American had a two-homer day against the New York Mets and is now 4-for-9 with a double and three homers over four Spring Training games.
Byron Buxton | OF | Minnesota Twins
Buxton, another Under Armour All-America Game alum (2011), kicked off his 2019 Spring Training with a bang, going 5-for-5 with a double, two homers and 10 RBIs in his first two games.
Sam Hentges | LHP| Cleveland Indians
The big left-hander and 2013 Under Armour All-American got the start versus the Rockies and pitched a perfect inning to get credited with the win. The 2014 fourth round pick out of Mounds View HS in Minnesota made 23 starts last season for High-A Lynchburg, posting a 3.27 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 118 1/3 innings pitched.
Corey Ray | OF | Milwaukee Brewers
Ray has been on fire at the start of the spring for the Brew Crew. He is 5-for-10 with a double and two home runs so far for the Brewers. The 2012 Under Armour All-American and former first round pick for Milwaukee nearly doubled his home run total from 2017 to ’18, blasting 27 home runs in 135 games at Double-A Biloxi. He also stole 37 base and walked 60 times.
Chance Sisco | C | Baltimore Orioles
Looking to become the O’s every day starting catcher and working to put a tough 2018 season behind him, Sisco is off to a fast start this spring with new manager, Brandon Hyde overseeing things in Baltimore. Sisco has four hits in his first six at-bats, three of those home runs and he’s driven in eight runs. Baltimore’s second round selection in 2013, Sisco attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event in 2010.
College
Nolan Crisp | RHP | University of Florida
Crisp enrolled early at Florida and is proving that he can retire college hitters the same way he did high school hitters. He’s made five appearances for the Gators so far this season and has five saves – not allowing a run over six innings pitched, while striking out five. Crisp attended Baseball Factory’s Nati0nal South Showcase in 2016, ’17 and ’18.
Thomas Dillard | OF/C | University of Mississippi
Dillard earned SEC and National Player of the Week honors. His week was highlighted by a two home run, eight RBI performance against Tulane. Overall, Dillard is hitting .481 with five homers and 16 RBI. Baseball Factory coaches first saw Thomas at an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in April of 2015 and was an Under Armour All-American four months later.
JT Ginn | RHP/IF | Mississippi State
Another freshman making an immediate impact, the 2017 Under Armour All-American is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 16 strikeouts through his first 12 collegiate innings.
Zach Linginfelter | RHP | University of Tennessee
Zach was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after throwing six shutout innings and striking out 13 hitters in a win over Indiana. Linginfelter was a 2015 Under Armour All-American.
High School
Matthew Allan | RHP | Sanford Seminole HS (FL)
With a fastball that routinely gets into the mid 90s, Matthew is high on draft boards. He started the season off with a three-inning performance in which he did not allow a hit and struck out eight. Allan performed well in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game.
Gavin Collyer | RHP | Mountain View HS (GA)
Gavin has turned in two excellent performances so far this year. He has thrown a combined seven innings against Milton and Parkview, striking out 12 total and running his FB up to 93 mph. Collyer attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout event in Peachtree City, GA in 2016 and Baseball Factory’s National South Showcase in June of 2018.
Jonathan French | C | Parkview HS (GA)
The Under Armour All-American has come out of the gates quickly in 2019. He’s 5-for-9 with a homer early and has already thrown out several runners on the base paths. French has been part of the Baseball Factory since 2013, first attending an Under Armour Baseball Factory Interactive Video Program and later, the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, Baseball Factory National South Showcase and the Under Armour All-America Game in 2018.
Brennan Malone | RHP | IMG Academy (FL/NC)
Early reports on Malone, now at IMG in Florida, are strong. Scouts had him up to 96 mph in his first outing with an improved breaking ball. Malone was the starting pitcher for the American squad in last year’s Under Armour All-America Game, won by his squad, 8-2 over the National squad.
