Baseball Factory Alumni Participate in Minor League All-Star Game

Seven Baseball Factory alumni were selected to an all-star game between the Short-Season-A Northwest League vs. the Rookie Advanced Pioneer League. The game, held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, ended with the Northwest League winning 11-5.


Northwest All-Stars

Jake Winston: RHP, Hillsboro (ARI)

So far in his first season of professional baseball, Jake Winston is proving why the Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him in the 17th round of June’s MLB Draft.

The righty owns a 1.80 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP with 23 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched.

Winston attended a 2011 College PREP in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament in 2011.

Jared Cheek: RHP, Eugene (CHC)

As the closer for Chicago’s Short-Season-A affiliate, Eugene, Jared Cheek was the closer for the team before being promoted to Low-A South Bend.

The right-hander gave up on two earned runs in 18.1 innings pitched, allowing only 12 hits and two walks, while striking out 17.

Baseball Factory coaches first saw Cheek at a 2009 National Tryout in Atlanta, Georgia. Cheek then played in the Christmas Camp and Tournament in 2009, the Team One South Showcase in 2010, The Team One Fall Showcase in 2010, the Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament in 2011 and the Under Armour Preseason All-America Game in 2011.

John Riley: C, Salem-Keizer (SFG)

In his fourth season of pro baseball, John Riley is hitting his stride, earning him an All-Star Game selection.

The 22-year-old backstop is slashing .322/.419/.433 with nine RBI and an .852 OPS.

Riley played in the Team One Futures Showcase in 2011 and the Under Armour Preseason All-America Tournament in 2012.

Eric Filia: OF, Everett (SEA)

Eric Filia was named to the All-Star Game in only his first season of pro ball. The 23-year-old outfielder is slashing .316/.416/.451 for an .867 OPS with 30 RBI, six doubles, four home runs and seven stolen bases. In 162 plate appearances, Filia has walked 24 times with only nine strikeouts. Filia went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in the All-Star Game.

Baseball Factory coaches saw Filia at a National Tryout in Costa Mesa, California, in 2009, as well as the Ryan Lemmon Foundation Showcase in 2009. Filia also attended a 2010 College PREP in Costa Mesa, California.

Chad Smith: OF, Spokane (TEX)

In 35 games this season with Spokane, Chad Smith has eight doubles, two home runs, 20 RBI and a .342 on-base percentage.

Smith attended a National Tryout in Orlando, Florida, in 2011 and the Under Armour Futures Series East in 2013.


Pioneer League All-Stars

Jordan Desguin: RHP, Helena (MIL)

In 40 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers affiliate, Jordan Desguin is 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and 40 strikeouts.

Baseball Factory coaches saw Deguin at the Ryan Lemmon Sophomore Showcase in 2010.

Colton Welker: IF, Grand Junction (COL)

Colton Welker is proving his worth in his first season of pro ball. Earning a spot on the Pioneer League All-Star team, the 18-year-old is slashing .287/.331/.417 with 17 RBI.

Baseball Factory coaches first saw Welker at the Under Armour Fall Classic in 2012. Welker attended two National Tryouts, one in Delray Beach (Boca Raton), Florida, in 2013 and one in Tampa, Florida, in 2015. In 2013, Welker played in the Under Armour Memorial Day Classic, and in 2015, he played in the Under Armour All-America Game.
