Baseball Factory Alumni Shine in College World Series Regionals, Super-Regional Matchups Set

With approximately 600 Baseball Factory alumni participating in last weekend’s NCAA Division I College World Series Regionals, dozens of alumni stood out with notable performances.

Matt Gonzalez, LF, Georgia Tech

Senior LF Matt Gonzalez went 8-for-16 (.500) with a double, a home run, six RBI and three walks in Georgia Tech’s four games in the Gainvesville Regional.

The Yellow Jackets made it to the finals against No. 1 overall seed Florida but lost 10-1 and did not advance to the super regionals.

Baseball Factory saw Gonzalez at an October, 2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Atlanta, GA.

 

Jonathan India, 3B, Florida

Peter Alonso, 1B, Florida

The team who won the Gainesville Regional, the Florida Gators, has a pair of Baseball Factory alumni who slugged the No. 1 overall seed to a 3-0 record in the regionals and a bid to the super regionals.

Jonathan India slashed .600/.714/.900 in the three games for the Gators. The freshman 3B went 6-for-10 (.600) with a home run, two RBI, two walks and two HBPs.

Junior 1B Peter Alonso smacked eight base hits in 14 at-bats (.571) with six runs scored, eight RBI, three home runs and a double.

Baseball Factory coaches saw India at a Team One Future Series and at the 2014 Under Armour Showcase. The infielder was also named to the 2015 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour. Alonso was first seen at a 2010 Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP in Tampa, Florida. He was also seen at the 2010 Fr./So. Classic in Arizona and at the 2011 Team One.

Alex Faedo, P, Florida

Another Florida Gator, sophomore pitcher Alex Faedo, was the winning pitcher in the super-regional clincher.

The 6-5 right-hander tossed eight scoreless inning, allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters and improving his record to 13-1.

Jackson Lueck, LF, Florida St.

Cal Raleigh, C, Florida St.

Two freshmen led the Florida St. Seminoles to a sweep of the Tallahassee Regional and a bid to the super regionals.

Jackson Lueck drove in seven runs and scored five runs in the three games for the Seminoles. The freshman LF hit .416 (5-12) with two home runs.

Freshman catcher Cal Raleigh went 5-for-12 with a home run, a double, six runs scored, three RBI and three walks.

Baseball Factory saw Lueck at a 2013 Under Armour Futures Series in Jupiter, FL, and Raleigh at the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory. Raleigh was also named to the 2015 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour.

Randy Bell, P, South Alabama

Junior pitcher Randy Bell threw a complete game and got the victory in a must-win game for the South Alabama Jaguars. Bell gave up three runs over seven hits while walking none and striking out eight Alabama St. batters.

The Jaguars made it to the finals against the No. 1 seed in the Tallahassee Regional, Florida St., but lost 18-6 and did not advance to the super regionals.

Bell attended two Jackson, MS, National Tryouts in both 2011 and 2012. Baseball Factory coaches also saw him at the 2011 16U USA Baseball Championships in Arizona.

 

Kirk McCarty, P, Southern Miss

Kirk McCarty led the Golden Eagles on the mound in Southern Miss’ first game of the Tallahassee Regional. The sophomore southpaw tossed six shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out four against South Alabama.

The Golden Eagles lost their next two regional games and did not advance to the super regionals.

Pavin Smith, 1B, Virginia

Sophomore 1B Pavin Smith led the Virginia offense going 5-for-15 in three games for the Cavaliers. Smith drove in four runs and hit a double and two home runs in the Charlottesville Regional.

The Cavaliers went 1-2 in the regional and did not advance to the super regionals.

Smith attended the Team One Futures Series East in 2012 as well as the 18U 2013 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic. Baseball Factory coaches also saw Smith at the Under Armour Fall Classic, and the 1B was named to the 2014 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour.

Thomas Hatch, P, Oklahoma St.

Thomas Hatch threw seven shutout innings in Oklahoma State’s opening game in the Clemson Regional. The sophomore right-hander allowed six hits and two walks while striking out 10 Nebraska batters.

The Cowboys swept the regionals and advanced to the super regionals.

Baseball Factory coaches first saw Hatch at an Edmond (Oklahoma City) Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in 2011. Hatch also attended a 2012 Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP in 2012 and the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game. Hatch was also named to the 2013 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour.

Seth Beer, RF, Clemson

Weston Wilson, 2B, Clemson

Two Clemson players led the Tigers in the Clemson Regional.

Freshman RF Seth Beer went 4-for-12 (.333) with six runs scored, seven RBI, five walks, a double and a home run. Junior 2B Weston Wilson. also hit .333 (5-12) with six RBI, three walks, a home run and a stolen base.

The Tigers lost to Oklahoma St. in the Clemson Regional final and did not advance to the super regionals.

Beer attended the Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory in both 2014 and 2015. Baseball Factory coaches first saw Wilson at a 2011 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Charlotte, NC. Wilson also attended a 2012 Team One South Showcase and a 2013 Under Armour All-America Preseason Tournament.

Adam Hill, P, South Carolina

Freshman South Carolina pitcher Adam Hill was the winning pitcher in the Columbia Regional final against Rhode Island.

Hill gave up two runs, three hits and four walks in seven innings while striking out six Ram batters.

Jarren Duran, 2B, Long Beach St.

Daniel Jackson, 1B, Long Beach St.

Two Long Beach St. sluggers led the 49ers to the Coral Gables Regional finals.

Jarren Duran reached base in all four games in the regional. The freshman infielder went 6-for-17 (.353) with five runs scored, two RBI, two doubles, two triples and a home run.

Junior 1B Daniel Jackson smacked a home run and a double with four RBI, three runs scored and three walks in the four 49er games.

The 49ers lost to Miami and did not advance to the super regionals.

Duran was a participant in the 2014 18U Under Armour Southwest Championships. Jackson was a participant in the 2012 Under Armour Southwest Championships.

Michael Mediavilla, P, Miami

Michael Mediavilla pitched the Coral Gables Regional clincher for the Miami Hurricanes.

The sophomore lefty tossed seven innings, scattering seven hits, three walks and two runs while striking out six batters.

Baseball Factory coaches saw Mediavilla at a 2013 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Delray Beach (Boca Raton), FL. He also attended a 2013 Under Armour Showcase for Baseball Factory’s Team One.

 

Brendan McKay, DH, Louisville

Brendan McKay led the No. 2 overall seed Louisville to a sweep of the Louisville Regional.

The sophomore DH went 5-for-11 (.455) with three runs scored, three RBI and a home run, as the Cardinals move on to the super regionals.

Seth Kinker, P, Ohio St.

Seth Kinker pitched twice in relief for Ohio State. The first appearance came in a Game 1 win over Wright St. Kinker threw 3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three. Kinker pitched again in a Game 3 elimination loss, also to Wright St, going 3.2 scoreless, giving up two hits and a walk while punching out one batter.

The Buckeyes went 1-2 in the Louisville Regional and did not make it to the super regional.

Kinker attended a 2011 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout and a 2011 Midwest Team One Showcase.

 

J.D. Orr, LF, Wright St.

Freshman LF J.D. Orr led the Wright St. Raiders to the Louisville Regional finals with his offensive prowess.

In the four games, Orr reached base via hit in all four. He was 8-for-15 (.533) with four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles and a stolen base.

Baseball Factory saw Orr at a 2012 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Dublin (Columbus), OH.

 

Leland Saile, 1B, Navy

Junior 1B Leland Saile went 5-for-15 with three runs, two RBI, a double and a home run in the three games for Navy at the Raleigh Regional.

Navy went 1-2 in the regional and will not advance to the super regional.

Saile attended a 2010 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Tampa, FL.

 

 

Preston Palmeiro, 1B, North Carolina St.

Another junior 1B Preston Palmeiro led his team with the stick in the Raleigh Regional. Palmeiro knocked in seven runs with a triple, a home run and a .435 batting average (10-23).

The Wolfpack played five games in the regional, but lost in a winner-takes-all game to regional champion Coastal Carolina.

Zac Houston, P, Mississippi St.

Junior pitcher Zac Houston got the win on the mound in the Starkville Regional final for the Mississippi St. Bulldogs. 

The 6-5 right-hander chucked six innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits and three walks while punching out 10 batters. The win moved him to 6-0 on the season.

Baseball Factory saw Houston attended a Jackson, MS, Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in 2013.

 

Brandon Bailey, P, Gonzaga

Brandon Bailey led the Gonzaga Bulldogs on the bump to a Game 1 victory over Arizona St. The junior right-hander threw seven innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits and one walk while striking out five.

The Zags lost their next two games in the Fort Worth Regional and will not be moving on to the super regionals

Bailey attended a 2012 Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP in Lakewood (Denver), CO. Baseball Factory coaches also saw Bailey at the 2012 Team One West Showcase.

 

Eli Lingos, P, Arizona St.

Zach Dixon, P, Arizona St.

A pair of southpaws for Arizona St. gave stellar performances in the Fort Worth Regional last weekend, which helped lead the Sun Devils to the regional finals.

Sophomore Eli Lingos threw 6.1, one-hit shutout innings in relief a Game 1 loss to Gonzaga. Lingos surrended only one walk while striking out four batters.

Zach Dixon threw eight innings in an elimination-game win over Gonzaga. The 6-0 freshman mixed six hits, three walks and three runs over eight innings while picking up the win and striking out nine batters.

Lingos was a participant in both the 2013 Under Armour Southwest Championships and the 2013 Under Armour So Cal Classic. Baseball Factory saw Dixon at the 2014 Under Armour So Cal Classic.

Austen Wade, RF, TCU

Sophomore RF Austen Wade led the TCU Horned Frogs to a comfortable sweep of the Fort Worth Regional.

The leadoff hitter for the Horned Frogs went 5-for-11 (.455) with five runs scored, three RBI, four walks, a triple and two stolen bases.

A trio of LSU sluggers led the No. 8 overall seed to a Baton Rouge Regional title and a super regional berth.

Jake Fraley, CF, LSU

Junior CF Jake Fraley recorded six hits in 16 at-bats (.375) in the four games for the Tigers.

Fraley displayed his versatility, as he stole two bases, walked twice, drove in four runs, hit a double and two home runs, including a four-hit laser show in Game 3.

Fraley attended a Team One Showcase in 2012.

 

Kramer Robertson, SS, LSU

 

Sophomore SS Kramer Robertson hit .571 (8-14) in the regional, while driving in three, scoring six runs, walking twice, hitting two doubles and one home run, including four hits in Game 3.

Baseball Factory coaches saw Robertson at a Team One South Showcase in 2011.

 

Greg Deichmann, 1B, LSU

 

Greg Deichmann may have been even more impressive than his teammates, Fraley and Robertson. The sophomore 1B slashed .600/.625/1.200, as he recorded nine hits in 15 at-bats, including three home runs and 10 RBI.

Deichmann participated in a 2012 Team One Futures Series as well as the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory. Deichmann was also named to the 2014 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour.

 

Alex Lange, P, LSU

While the bats led the Tigers, the arms weren’t far behind, especially the right arm of pitcher Alex Lange.

The 6-3 sophomore defeated Rice in Game 2 with an eight-inning, two-run performance. Lange allowed only five hits and two walks while striking out 10 and improving his record to 8-3 on the season.

Luis Gonzalez, CF, New Mexico

Sophomore New Mexico CF Luis Gonzalez broke into the Lubbock Regional with vengeance, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and five RBI in a Game 1 victory over Dallas Baptist.

While New Mexico would lose its next two games, Gonzalez’s bat didn’t cool off, as he went 4-for-9 in the next two games. Overall, Gonzalez was 8-for-13 (.615) with four doubles, three runs scored, six RBI and two walks.

Gonzalez participated in a 2014 Under Armour Preseason All-America Tournament.

 

Noah Bremer, P, Washington

Noah Bremer deserved a much better fate in Washington’s regional opener against University of California Santa Barbara. The sophomore threw nine innings, allowing only four hits, two walks and one run while striking out two, but the game went into extra innings and the Huskies lost in the 14th inning.

Washington would finish the regional 1-2 and will not be moving on to the super regionals.

Bremer participated in the 2013 Under Armour Southwest Championships.

 

Shane Bieber, P, UCSB

Bremer’s counterpart in that game was University of California Santa Barbara junior Shane Bieber. The 6-3 righty gave up one run in 7.1 innings pitched, scattering eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

UCSB would go on to win the Nashville Regional and will play in this weekend’s super regional.

College World Series Super Regional Matchups (Friday-Sunday)

The following are best-of-three super regionals. Game 1 is set to be played on Friday, with Game 2 and Game 3 (if necessary) set for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Boston College (34-20) at No. 3 Miami (FL) (48-11)

East Carolina (37-21-1) at No. 5 Texas Tech (45-17)

Arizona (42-21) at No. 6 Mississippi St. (44-16-1)

TCU (45-15) at No. 4 Texas A&M (48-14)

College World Series Super Regional Matchups (Saturday-Monday)

The following matchups are best-of-three super regionals. Game 1 is set to be played on Saturday, with Game 2 and Game 3 (if necessary) set for Sunday and Monday, respectively.

Florida St. (40-20) at No. 1 Florida (50-13)

Coastal Carolina (47-16) at No. 8 LSU (45-19)

Oklahoma State (39-20) at South Carolina (46-16)

UC Santa Barbara (40-18-1) at No. 2 Louisville (50-12)
