With the 2010 season in the books, Major League Baseball has officially announced the awards for this year’s standout performances. Among the recipients of this year’s awards are eight Baseball Factory alumni, who together amassed a total of ten awards including two Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, six Silver Slugger Awards, a League MVP and a Cy Young Award. Whether this marked their first award or their fourth, Baseball Factory would like to congratulate the alumni who were recognized for their strong efforts this season.

Mark Teixeira (Baseball Factory’s Team One National) earned his second consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Award as the New York Yankees first baseman and the fourth of his career (Teixeira previously earned two Gold Glove Awards as a Texas Ranger in 2005 & 2006). This year the Yankees returned to the American League Championship Series with a Major League leading.988 fielding percentage, helped in large part by Teixeira’s .998 fielding percentage at first base. He committed only three errors in 1,310 opportunities in 2010.

The second of the two Gold Glove Awards earned this year by Baseball Factory alumni belongs to Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (Baseball Factory’s Team One West), the first of his young career. For Tulowitzki this year marked a number of firsts, as his strong offensive numbers were also rewarded with his first ever Silver Slugger Award. He led all NL shortstops in fielding percentage, double plays, total chances per nine innings and putouts per nine innings. Offensively, Tulowitzki led all NL shortstops in batting, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS and homeruns.

In addition to Tulowitzki, three more Baseball Factory alumni earned National League Silver Slugger Awards at their respective positions. Brian McCann (Baseball Factory’s Team One National) earned his fourth Silver Slugger award in five years, solidifying him as the strongest offensive catching threat in the National League (Check out what Brian had to say about the Baseball Factory and  Team One). The Braves player led all NL catchers in homeruns and RBI’s. McCann’s consistency over the last few years is matched closely by Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun (Baseball Factory’s Team One National), who earned his third consecutive Silver Slugger Award. Last of the NL Silver Sluggers but certainly not least is Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman (Baseball Factory’s Team One South). Like McCann and Braun, Zimmerman also posted consecutive offensive award-winning seasons, earning back-to-back Silver Slugger Awards at third base with his strongest offensive year yet. Ryan hit a career-high .307, with 25 homeruns and 85 RBIs for the Nationals this season.

Jose Bautista (Baseball Factory’s Team One National) made his seventh season in the Majors a breakout one, posting career-high numbers while playing the outfield for the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished the season with 54 homeruns (most in the Majors this year), setting the franchise record for most homeruns in a single season. This is the first Silver Slugger award for Bautista. Leading the Texas Rangers to their first World Series appearance in franchise history, Josh Hamilton (Baseball Factory’s Team One National) posted impressive offensive numbers despite missing much of September with an injury. Hamilton led the AL with a .633 slugging percentage and 1.044 OPS, while batting .359 with 32 homeruns and 100 RBI’s to earn the second Silver Slugger award of his career. To cap his memorable 2010 season, Hamilton was also named American League MVP. The honor awarded to Hamilton may have been the first MVP of his Major League career, but he demonstrated the caliber player he could be as a young high school player when he earned the MVP award during Baseball Factory’s Team One National event in 1998.

The 2010 MLB season saw many incredible pitching performances, but few came close to the season-long effort from Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay (Baseball Factory’s Team One National). In his first year in the National League, Halladay dominated NL lineups and helped lead the Phillies to their third straight NL Championship Series appearance. Halladay posted a 21-10 record with a 2.44 ERA, not to mention he led the league in wins, complete games, shutouts and innings pitched. He became the 20th pitcher in Major League history to throw a perfect game and only the second ever to throw a no-hitter in the postseason (Check out Roy throwing at the Baseball Factory's Team One National Showcase). His convincing effort earned a unanimous 32 votes for the NL Cy Young award, giving Halladay his second career Cy Young and making him only the fifth pitcher to earn the award in both leagues.
