Baseball Factory Player Remington Monce Named Indiana Baseball Player of the Week
Remington Monce got his 2016 season off to a fantastic start with a performance that landed him recognition as Indiana Baseball Player of the Week by the Indianapolis Star.
Monce, a senior right-handed pitcher at Northfield High School in Lagro, Indiana was bestowed the honor after starting the opening game for the Norse on March 29th, responding with a no-hit, 17-strikeout performance against Pre-Season #1 ranked Blackhawk Christian High School in the team’s 3-0 victory.
The hard-working Monce has committed to Jackson Junior College and is a veteran of Baseball Factory events, starting with his first ever event in Indianapolis at a Little League Youth Clinic in May of 2010 as a 12-year old. Between March of 2012 and September of 2014, we saw Monce six more times at Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout events as well as a College PREP event in Troy, MI.
He continued to improve and impressed our scouts and coaches with tenacity on the mound and the ability to consistently throw strikes at later events like the Under Armour Baseball Factory National East Showcase last July where he threw upper 80s with a great 11/5 breaking ball and a good, deceptive changeup with run that he controlled well.
We saw Remington again this past January in Mesa, selected as an Under Armour Pre-Season All-American, mixing speed with his arsenal of pitches, including an explosive slider that sat high 70s and a changeup and curve that had nice movement and kept hitters off balance.
In his last start, Monce did just that, keeping hitters off balance and setting the tone for his senior season of high school ball.
“I really enjoyed that he was diligent with keeping us updated on a monthly basis about how he was doing, that showed a lot of discipline,” said Dan Forester, Senior Vice President of Player Development for Baseball Factory. “He’s always had talent, but what made him a successful pitcher is that he took that talent and made the most out of it through hard work and dedication. He’s a serious student and it seems to me that he’s been a great son to his family and a great teammate to his team.”
