Four catchers posted pop times worthy of top ten rankings at the February 7 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in San Diego, led by 2018 C Bradley Polinsky (San Diego, CA) at 1.89. Only the third catcher in the 2018 class to break 1.90, Polinsky moved into solo second-place, barely behind the leaders at 1.88.

Proof that a year indeed makes a difference, 2017 SS/C Dante Faicchio (Laguna Niguel, CA) also posted 1.89, but finds himself in a tie for 10th-place as one of twenty-four players in the class of 2017 to better 1.90. With a low pop time of 1.99, C Andrew Semo (Coronado, CA) brought the total number of 2018 graduates to break 2.00 up to fifteen, and moved into a tie for eighth-place.

This marked the third consecutive year we saw 2019 C Samuel Lopez (San Diego, CA) at the San Diego tryout. At the 2014 event –his first with us — he posted times between 2.45 and 2.75. One year later, and still one year away from high school, his low time was down to 2.18 while the upper end of his range had fallen to 2.35. Most recently, he maintained his strong trajectory with times between 2.06 and 2.15. That 2.06 represents an improvement of almost four tenths of a second in three years, and sits tied for sixth-place among 2019 graduates.

At the Mobile, AL Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, 2017 C Hunter Brittain (Brewton, AL) — a South Alabama commit — posted 1.81 to enter a tie for fourth-place among 2017 graduates.
