Chicago Cubs Call Up Addison Russell To Major League Roster
Yet another Baseball Factory alumnus will make his major league debut and it happens to be with the upstart Chicago Cubs.
Cubs star prospect, Addison Russell has been called up and will join Factory alum, Kris Bryant, who made his major league debut for Chicago last week, on the major league roster.
The 21 year-old Russell, a 2010 Under Armour Baseball Factory All-American, hit .318 with a HR and nine RBI in 11 games with Triple-A Iowa this season and will immediately make an impact on a team that needs help in the infield.
Russell, a shortstop by trade, can also play second and will fill a need immediately as Cubs second baseman are hitting just .146 so far this season.
The much-heralded Russell’s bat plays well to major league pitching and the transition to second should be an easy one for the smooth-fielding prospect who was ranked the No.5 prospect in baseball prior to the season starting.
He’ll now play home games at Wrigley Field where he once showed skills that made him an All-American.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters that he is confident in playing Addison at a different position to help the overall cause of winning games at the major league level.
“We’re just trying to give him that opportunity to play there,” Maddon, when explaining to reporters the reasoning behind Russell playing second.
“Personally, I like guys like that playing a bunch of different spots in the Minor Leagues if you can. You never know where the need will be on the Major League level.”
