Bryce Harper, an alumni of the Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour, won his first Most Valuable Player award on Thursday night in a unanimous vote. On the American League side, 2004 Under Armour Baseball Factory Pre-Season All American Josh Donaldson won his first MVP.
Harper attended the event when he was a 15-year-old high school freshman, but it was evident then that his skillset would translate quickly to professional baseball, as can be seen in our video of him.
The Washington Nationals right fielder was far and away the best player in baseball this year in terms of both traditional statistics and advanced metrics. The lefthander mashed the baseball to a tune of 42 home runs and a .330 batting average. His on base plus slugging was an astounding 1.109, better than anyone else in the league.
Harper, who carried the Nationals offense for much of the year, has received numerous other awards throughout his career, including his first Silver Slugger this offseason, to go along with his 2012 Rookie of the Year award and his three All-Star appearances.
Donaldson, in his first year as the third baseman for the AL East Champion Toronto Blue Jays, finally came out on top after finishing eighth in the voting in 2013 and fourth in 2014.
The 29 year old hit .297 with 41 home runs, 123 RBI and 122 runs, leading the league in the latter two categories. In addition to those outstanding numbers, Donaldson hit 41 doubles and had an on base percentage of .371.
Donaldson’s trophy case was already crowded, as he has had consecutive all star game appearances in addition to earning his first Silver Slugger award last week. Now he can add the MVP trophy.
Congratulations to Bryce, Josh and all other Baseball Factory Alumni who have earned awards this offseason.
