Delaware State University’s Todd Henry Awarded MEAC Rookie of the Week Honors
Freshman infielder Todd Henry, a Baseball Factory alum, was recently named the MEAC’s Rookie of the Week after an impressive end to the month of March on the field and an even more impressive end to his first semester in the classroom.
A native of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Henry is a graduate of Egg Harbor High School and was a two-year varsity baseball letterman at the school where he set the school record for triples in a season (five) and was named Team MVP after batting .309 with five doubles, one home run and 22 RBI as a senior.
His athleticism stretched beyond the baseball diamond as Henry also participated in Track and Field, helping to lead the school to a State Group IV championship as a junior.
While in high school, we saw Henry for the first time in the summer of 2012 at our Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout event in Trenton, NJ before being invited to participate in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. He also participated in two more Baseball Factory College PREP events, continuing to sharpen his skill set as a complete player to get to the next level.
Now at Delaware State, the Hornets infielder is excelling at baseball and in the classroom too, posting a 3.6 GPA his last semester as he pursues his degree in exercise science.
“We are thrilled to see Todd doing so well on the baseball field, but also in the classroom as well,” said Dan Forester, Senior Vice President of Player Development for Baseball Factory. “Throughout his high school career, he kept getting better and better each time we saw him. I think it’s a testament to the type of person and player he is.”
On the field, the 5’10”, 185 pound infielder is a starter, playing a multitude of positions showing off his versatility, making starts at second base, third base and all three outfield positions this season. Despite being just a freshman, Henry leads the team in hitting with a .324 batting average with 16 walks out of the leadoff spot and is proving he can rise to the occasion in crunch time, posting at a .377 average and .477 on-base percentage with seven RBI, five stolen bases and 15 runs scored inside MEAC competition.
Henry was named MEAC Rookie of the Week to cap the month of March, going 7-for-16 with seven RBI in four games for the Hornets, including a a six-RBI, three-hit performance in the Hornets’ 14-6 victory over Coppin State on March 26th.
