Former Baseball Factory Player Chris Parmelee Shines In Orioles Debut
Chris Parmelee had spent the first two and a half months of the 2015 season at Triple-A with the Norfolk Tides, affiliate for the Baltimore Orioles up until last night when the 27-year-old was called up by the O’s and had a smashing debut.
The former first round pick (20th overall) in the 2006 MLB Draft from the Minnesota Twins hit two home runs in his Oriole debut, going 4-for-6 with three runs scored in the O’s 19-3 romp over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Parmelee became the first O’s player to his two homers in his debut since Sam Horn did the same on April 9, 1990 against the Kansas City Royals.
Parmelee is a Baseball Factory alum who appeared in the Cape Code High School All-Star Game as a junior in 2005, the same event that former Factory alum and current San Francisco Giants first baseman and outfielder Brandon Belt participated in.
The native of Chino Hills, California spent parts of four seasons with the Twins, playing in 273 career games, hitting just .249 and could never quite find his place in the Minnesota Twins lineup. It appears he’s found a home now with the Baltimore Orioles.
He signed a minor-league deal with the O’s on January 26th, and despite a solid spring training, began the season in Norfolk as a member of the Tides in the outfield. Parmelee batted .312 in 61 games this season with 13 doubles, six homers and 32 RBI. A clause in his contract allowed him to opt-out of his contract if he was not on a major-league roster. Perfect timing.
Parmelee fit in just fine, receiving not one, but three victory pies from teammates while being interviewed after the game, and felt that, with his performance last night, his time was now in speaking with media after the game.
“Been trying to just take it day-by-day and trying to keep that good feeling going as long as possible,” Parmelee said. “That is what we all strive for, because we don’t feel 100 percent every day. You want to see how long you can carry that for.”
