Former Baseball Factory Players To Participate in 2015 MLB Futures Game

The 17th annual Futures Game, a showcase of major league baseball’s future talent, will take place on Sunday, July 12th at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, site of the 86th annual All-Star Game which will be played on Tuesday, July 14th.

Major League Baseball, in part with Baseball America and all 30 major league clubs had a hand in picking the 25-man rosters for each team. Each major league organization is represented in the event and a number of former Baseball Factory players will take part in the game, pitting the U.S. Team against the World Team.

In total, seven former Baseball Factory players will make up the two rosters, with six being selected to the U.S. Team.

Tyler Beede

Tyler Beede

Tyler Beede, a first round selection (14th overall) by the San Francisco Giants in 2014 is currently with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the Giants after beginning the season with the High-A San Jose Giants. Beede, a right-handed starter is 3-4 this season with a 3.09 ERA in 13 starts. Beede attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island in 2008 and 2009 and was selected to participate in the Team One North showcase in 2009.

At just 22 years old, Aaron Nola has ascended to the top of the Philadelphia Phillies list as their best pitching prospect, after the former first round pick (7th overall) in last year’s draft moved his way up to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after beginning the season with Reading, the Phillies Double-A affiliate. In 14 starts between the two minor league systems, Nola has pitched to a 1.91 ERA, striking out 73 batters and only walking 11 in 89 1/3 innings pitched.

Nola began his baseball journey by participating in an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2008 and New Orleans in 2010.

Josh Bell

Josh Bell

Right fielder/First baseman Josh Bell, a second round selection in 2011 for the Pittsburgh Pirates has hit very well so far this season for the Double-A Altoona Curve, after hitting a combined .325 last season between High-A Bradenton and Altoona. This season, Bell is hitting .318 in 66 games as either first baseman or DH, driving in 44 runs (good for fourth-best in the Eastern League) with 10 doubles and six triples.

Bell got his start by attending an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Carrollton, Texas in 2009 and selected to the Team One Futures Game in October of 2009.

J.P. Crawford

J.P. Crawford

Another Philadelphia Phillies prospect on the radar is short stop J.P. Crawford, who was once a 2012 Under Armour All-American coming out of Lakewood High School in Lakewood, California.

Crawford has excelled at each level he’s been to during his professional career, jumping from the High-A Clearwater Phillies to Double-A Reading, hitting a combined .339 with nine doubles, one triple, two homers and 17 RBI.

Crawford started his Baseball Factory experience with an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Azusa, California in September of 2009.

Matt Olson

Matt Olson

Power-hitting first baseman Matt Olson was the Oakland Athletics 47th overall pick in the 2012 Draft and he has not disappointed in the power department, blasting 37 home runs with the High-A Stockton Ports. This season in Double-A with the Midland Rockhounds, Olson has hit eight homers in 71 games.

Olson, a 2011 Under Armour All-American dazzled scouts with his powerful left-handed stroke and showing off incredible raw power during the event.

Brandon Nimmo

Brandon Nimmo was the New York Mets thirteenth overall selection in the 2011 Draft out of East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Nimmo started the 2015 season with the High-A St. Lucie Mets before being promoted to Double-A where the left-handed hitting outfielder is batting .318 with 10 doubles, two triples, two homers and 11 RBI in 42 games for the Binghamton Mets.

Nimmo was a 2010 Under Armour All-American as scouts were impressed with his left-handed stroke and ability to drive the ball with power. Being a Wyoming native, Nimmo’s performance in the All-America Game gave him the exposure needed to take the next step in his journey.

Jose Berrios

Jose Berrios

Jose Berrios is the lone Baseball Factory alum to be named to the World Team and for good reason, as the 21-year-old is having the finest season of his professional career to date for the Minnesota Twins’ Double-A affiliate, Chattanooga Lookouts.

The No. 32 overall prospect as rated by MLB.com before the season began, Berrios has won seven games in 14 starts to the tune of a 3.23 ERA. His 86 strikeouts this season is tops among all Southern League pitchers and he’s holding opponents to a .242 batting average.

Berrios was part of the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game where he showed his flashes of dominance during the game. A three-pitch pitcher, his fastball sat low 90’s, in addition to a breaking ball with big time action across and down in the zone. As Berrios has done now, already having thrown a complete-game shutout this season, he showed the ability to consistently throw strikes, change speeds and move the ball all around the zone.

Last season, the U.S. Team held on for a 3-2 victory over the World Team, winning their fifth-straight contest and leading the all-time series, 10-6.
