Four Baseball Factory Alumni To Participate In Tonight’s Home Run Derby
The 2015 All-Star Game Festivities kick off tonight at 8:00 P.M. for the big leaguers with the 2015 Home Run Derby in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Great American Ball Park and four former Baseball Factory players will participate in the power display.
Josh Donaldson, who is top-five in the American League with 21 home runs and fifth in the A.L. with a .532% slugging percentage was a Baseball Factory All-American in 2004. He’s participating in his second-consecutive Derby.
Kris Bryant, a 2008 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American, is just the sixth rookie to participate in the Home Run Derby. Bryant’s teammate, Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is also participating in his first Home Run Derby as well. Rizzo was a 2006 Team One South participant and played in the 2006 Cape Cod High School All-Star Game.
Prince Fielder, a 2001 Team One National participant, is a two-time Home Run Derby champ, winning in 2009 and 2012.
The script has changed quite a bit for this year’s Home Run Derby, beginning with a new bracketed format featuring seeds and timed rounds, designed to generate even more interest in the Derby.
According to MLB.com, beginning in the first and continuing through the third and final round, the loser of each head-to-head matchup will be eliminated, while the winner advances to the next round. Each batter will have five minutes to hit as many home runs as possible, with a timer starting with the release of the first pitch. In addition to the timing changes, batters will be awarded bonus time based on home run distance.
