New Team One Executive Director Announced

Jeff Spelman, who served nearly 14 years as Team One Senior Director after pioneering the showcase concept in 1992, announced recently he is leaving the company and stepping away from the baseball industry.

Team One’s new director will be Mac Seibert, currently the Vice President of Player Development and College Placement for Team One and its partner, Baseball Factory. Andy Ferguson will continue as Senior Director of Scouting for Team One and the Baseball Factory.

“Team One was named because it was just that, a team of one man, Jeff Spelman,” Seibert said. “He has grown the organization to the level it is at today, the premier showcase company in the nation.”

As a result of Spelman’s guidance, Team One’s alumni have gone on to great achievements in baseball. Spelman’s portfolio with Team One includes:

  • 130 players reaching the major leagues, including Cy Young winner Roy Halladay and four-time Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez

  • Over 2,000 players selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft

  • Over 400 players appearing in the College World Series

  • Over 10,000 players going on to play in college

  • Alumni collectively receiving over $500 million in college scholarships

  • 5 players winning the Collegiate National Player of the Year award

Spelman said, “We have always had the players’ best interests in mind since day one and I know Mac [Seibert] will continue that tradition and build upon the reputation of Team One.”

Spelman founded Team One with the vision of providing the best exposure to the nation’s top high school prospects. He introduced the showcase concept to baseball by gathering players to work out in front of large crowds of scouts and college recruiters. The concept quickly caught on in the baseball industry, as a handful of other companies sprang up to imitate the idea.

Spelman expressed praise for Seibert as his successor at Team One.

“I couldn’t think of anyone better to pass the Team One torch to other than Mac Seibert,” Spelman said. “I’ve enjoyed working with Mac the past two years and am happy to see him carry on the mission of Team One to help young players further their careers.”

Seibert joined Team One and the Baseball Factory on a full-time basis after stepping down from his post as the National Crosschecker for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He serves as the point person for all Team One and Baseball Factory consulting players and parents.

Seibert played his collegiate baseball at the University of Miami and Jacksonville State University. He was drafted out of high school as a first baseman by the Oakland Athletics and then again out of college as a pitcher by the Detroit Tigers. Seibert coached at the collegiate level and then turned to scouting. Over his 14 years of scouting he worked with the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

“I look forward to continuing to help promising high school players move on to the next level of baseball through Team One showcases,” Seibert said. “I’m confident Team One will keep on advancing the careers of prospects across the nation.”

Andy Ferguson has been the Senior Director of Scouting at Baseball Factory since 2004, though his roots with the organization go back to 2000 when he started full time. He was a catcher at North Carolina State University, and also has playing experience in the Coastal Plains League for both the Wilmington Sharks and the Durham Braves.

Before joining Baseball Factory, Ferguson served as an Assistant Coach for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 1999. He also was an associate scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2000 and 2001, and then for the San Diego Padres in 2003.

“I don’t think any of us can replace Jeff, but we’re looking forward to keeping Team One as one of the premier showcase events for high school players in the country,” Ferguson said. “I think our new partnership with Baseball America makes this an exciting time for Team One and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Stan Brzezicki, who has been with Team One since the beginning, will remain in place as one of the key components to the success of the showcases. In addition to his duties as Field Coordinator, Brzezicki has a major role in scouting the players at each showcase and in making decisions on the Top Prospects.
