PIRATES AND BASEBALL FACTORY ANNOUNCE EXTENDED PARTNERSHIP

New Agreement Cements Pirate City as the Southern Home of Baseball Factory

Bradenton, Fla. – The Pittsburgh Pirates and Baseball Factory today announced the signing of a three-year contract extending the latter’s use of the Pirate City facility in Bradenton. The new contract calls for 24 Baseball Factory events to be held at Pirate City from 2012-2014, making the facility the Southern Home of Baseball Factory.

Baseball Factory is a leader in developing amateur baseball talent and helping educate players on the college recruiting process. Since its creation in 1994, Baseball Factory has helped place over 40,000 baseball players in college programs that suited their best interests as student athletes. These players have received an astounding $1 Billion in college scholarships.  Baseball Factory's system of world class instruction and life-changing experiences provides players with unique player development opportunities that lead to future success both on the field and in the classroom.

"We are very excited to make Pirate City the Southern Home of Baseball Factory," said CEO and Founder Steve Sclafani. "Pirate City is a tremendous facility that will continue to serve as an ideal venue for our events. Our coaching staff has included Pirates’ Manager, Clint Hurdle, and Rick Sofield, Manager of the Pirates’ Single A affiliate, the West Virginia Power.  Making this connection with the Pirates is right for our organization and we look forward to holding numerous events in Bradenton over the next few years.”

Pirate City is the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league training complex. Big leaguers and minor leaguers alike use the facility during Spring Training. It is also the home of the Pirates’ Gulf Coast League affiliate during the summer. The state-of-the-art facility is frequently rented by outside groups, ranging from high school and college baseball teams to professional foreign baseball clubs and Olympic athletes. A 12-man contingent from Rowing Canada trained at Pirate City in February in preparation of the upcoming London Olympics.

Pirate City is an all-inclusive facility that includes dormitories, weight training facilities, on-site dining options, conference rooms and Major League-caliber baseball facilities. With four full fields, one half field, and a utility field with two infields placed adjacently, Pirate City is ideal for large baseball events like those operated by Baseball Factory. The facility also includes 12 bullpen mounds, five batting cages and a clubhouse with ample size for four team locker rooms, plus separate locker rooms for coaches and umpires.

Baseball Factory has hosted events at Pirate City since 2008. The new contract will bring more than 2,000 participants to Bradenton over a three-year span, the majority from outside of Florida. As part of the new agreement, Baseball Factory will offer a scholarship to two participants from Manatee County at each future Pirate City event. The partnership between the Pirates and Baseball Factory will strengthen the already important role baseball plays in Bradenton and Manatee County.

The next Baseball Factory Event scheduled at Pirate City is the Baseball Factory National World Series featuring players ages 12-14 years old from July 27-31.
