Road to Wrigley – Drew Waters
Drew Waters / CF / 6-2 / 183 / Woodstock, GA / Commitment to Georgia
You would be hard-pressed to find a high school player who puts more pressure on the defense than Drew Waters.
The 6.65 speed in the 60-yard dash certainly factors in, but more importantly he is instinctual and aggressive. It has been said that good base stealers have “the guts of a burglar”, and Drew seems to live that quote as he shows no fear on the bases and can’t wait to get to the next station. That same speed and aggressiveness allow him to patrol centerfield, making a valuable middle-of-the-diamond prospect.
At the plate, Drew swings the bat from both sides of the plate with authority. He has a high, deep hand set at launch from both sides and generates very good bat speed through the hitting zone. His barrel acceleration leads to hard line drive contact with some gap power.
Overall, this is a unique prospect with a hard-to-find profile. He plays the game very fast and hard and looks to be a top-of-the-order bat. Add in centerfield defense and the ability to steal bases, and you have a desirable prospect.
