Short-Season-A All-Star Game Shows Off Thirteen Baseball Factory Alumni

Yesterday, the Short-Season-A New York Penn League played it’s All-Star Game. The South All-Stars defeated the North All-Stars by a score of 9-5.

Thirteen Baseball Factory Alumni were selected to play in the game. The New York Penn League All-Star Game is the last of 12 total All-Star Games, counting the MLB All-Star Game and the Futures Game.

Here’s how the players in yesterday’s game are doing so far this season, how they played in the All-Star Game and what Baseball Factory events they attended.


New York Penn North Team

Shane Sawczak: LHP, Batavia (MIA)

This 20-year-old southpaw was dominating the New York Penn League before being promoted to Low-A Greensboro. In Shan Sawczak’s first season of pro ball, the lefty owned a 1.69 ERA in 21.1 innings of work for Batavia.

Baseball Factory coaches saw Sawczak at the Under Armour Memorial Classic in both 2012 and 2013.

Chuckie Robinson: C, Tri-City (HOU)

Chuckie Robinson has continued the success he had in college at Southern Miss with Houston’s Short-Season-A affiliate, Tri-City. Robinson is slashing .291/.371/.419 with 12 doubles and 13 RBI.

Robinson attended a College PREP in Indianapolis, Indiana.

 

 

Jim Haley: 3B, Hudson Valley (TBR)

In 47 games with Tampa Bay’s Short-Season-A affiliate, Jim Haley is continuing his success he showed at Penn State. The 6-foot-2 third baseman is hitting .296 with a .358 on-base percentage.

Baseball Factory coaches saw Haley at a 2012 National Tryout in St. Davids (Philadelphia), Pennsylvania.

Nate Mondou: 2B, Vermont (OAK)

Nate Mondou began his pro career at rookie ball, but after one game he was moved up to Oakland’s Short-Season-A affiliate, Vermont. With Vermont, the second baseman is putting up very impressive numbers, slashing .327/.397/.372 with seven doubles and 20 RBI.

Mondou played in the 2012 Under Armour Preseason All-America Tournament.

Matt McLean: OF, Lowell (BOS)

Playing in both center field and right field for Boston’s Short-Season-A affiliate, Matt McLean is slashing .260/.388/.350. The 22-year-old has four triples and six stolen bases in his first 28 games of his pro career.

Baseball Factory coaches first saw McLean at a 2011 College PREP in Cedar Hill (Dallas), Texas. McLean also played in the Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament in 2011.

 


New York Penn South Team

Juan Hillman: LHP, Mahoning Valley (CLE)

In his second season of pro ball, Juan Hillman is seeing success at the Short-Season-A level. At age 19, the lefty is a starting pitcher for the team. In 11 starts, Hillman owns a 3.24 ERA in 50 innings.

Baseball Factory coaches first saw Hillman at the 2013 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic. Hillman also played in the 2013 Under Armour Futures Showcase and the Under Armour All-America Game in 2014.

Todd Isaacs: OF, Mahoning Valley (CLE)

After hitting .214 last season in rookie ball, Todd Isaccs is dominating the New York Penn League this season. The outfielder is slashing .360/.389/.584 with 11 RBI, five doubles, five homers and six stolen bases.

Isaacs attended a 2012 National Tryout in Delray Beach (Boca Raton), Florida, and the Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory’s Team One in 2013.

Jeremy Martinez: C, State College (STL)

Drafted in the fourth round of this year’s MLB Draft, Martinez is batting .318 with nine doubles and 16 RBI and providing steady defense behind the plate. Martinez has also walked 24 times, compared to only 11 strikeouts, for a .430 on-base percentage. The backstop also has 21 RBI in 40 games.

In the game, Martinez went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Martinez played in the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game.

 

Peter Alonso: IF, Brooklyn (NYM)

Another high draft pick to come from the state of Florida, Alonso, who starred at the University of Florida, was the Mets’ second round selection this year and has not disappointed so far in the early going, displaying the pop that the organization wanted when selecting him. For New York’s Short-Season-A team, Peter Alonso is slashing .321/.382/.587 with 18 extra base hits with 21 RBI in 30 games.

Alonso, who we first saw at an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event in Tampa, Florida back in May of 2010, was a participant at the Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic in 2010 and Team One South in 2011.

Drew Bridges: 3B/1B, Staten Island (NYY)

Before being moved up to Low-A Charleston, Drew Bridges slashed .281/.336/.417 with Staten Island. Drew Bridges also had 12 doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI in his second season of pro ball.

Bridges attended a 2009 National Tryout in Springdale (Fayetteville), Arizona.

Danny Hudzina: 3B, State College (STL)

While playing solid defense at third base, Danny Hudzina is hitting .259 with a .354 slugging percentage this season with State College. In 41 games, Hudzina has eight doubles, two homers and 14 RBI in his first pro season.

In the game, Hudzina went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Elier Rodriguez: 1B, State College (STL)

In his fourth pro season, Elier Rodriguez is seeing the best success of his career. The first baseman, who has yet to make an error this season, is slashing .315/.392/.417 for State College. Rodriguez also has 23 RBI and seven doubles in 34 games this season.

In the game, Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Colby Woodmansee: SS, Brooklyn (NYM)

Drafted in the fifth round out of Arizona State University, Woodmansee is playing excellent defense for Brooklyn, owning a .985 fielding percentage. The shortstop is hitting .271 with nine doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI.

Woodmansee was a College PREP participant in August of 2010 in La Jolla, CA and later, the Arizona Fall Invitational and Team One West event in 2011.
