Top Measurables From The Eastern Iowa Sports Facility

At 40,000 sq. Ft. The Eastern Iowa Sports Facility is one of the largest indoor sports facilities in the state of Iowa.

The Eastern Iowa Sports Facility has a 150′ x 120′ baseball field, along with 3 batting / throwing tunnels.

On Sunday, February 15 the Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout tour rolled through Eastern Iowa. Located in Monticello (about halfway between Cedar Rapids and Dubuque), the Eastern Iowa Sports Facility has 40,000 square feet of indoor space — making it one of the largest in the state of Iowa.

Without a straight line of 60+ yards available, we relied on the 30 yard dash as our main running measurable. 2018 SS Trevor Burkhart (Davenport West HS – Davenport, IA) and 2015 LHP/OF Payton Raso (Iowa City Regina Hills HS – North Liberty, IA) tied for the fastest 30, with times of 3.90. Just off their bumper at 3.92 was 2016 OF Bryce Burke (Mfl-Mar-Mac HS – McGregor, IA), and just off his was 2016 LHP Cody Kellogg (South Tama County HS – Toledo, IA) at 3.93.

Other sub-four second times were turned in by 2016 OF Brett Fordyce (Abingdon-Avon HS – Abingdon, IL) at 3.94, 2016 RHP/OF Spencer Ferguson (Burlington Notre Dame HS – La Harpe, IL) at 3.97, and 2017 SS Maverick Miller (Marion HS – Marion, IA) and 3.98.

2015 LHP/OF Payton Raso (see above) also turned in the top fastball, this time in the lead by himself at 84 mph. Raso was one of only two players to lead in multiple top measurable categories. Close on his heels at 83 mph was 2016 OF/RHP Tyler Nunemaker (Prairie HS – Ely, IA), with four right behind him at 82 mph — 2016 RHP/OF Cristian Cordero (Burlington HS – Burlington, IA), 2016 C/RHP Nathan Hoth (Davenport West HS – Davenport, IA), 2016 LHP Cody Kellogg (see above), and 2018 RHP/1B Clayton Nettleton (Davenport West HS – Davenport, IA).

2016 RHP/1B Jon Rozeboom (Waukee HS – Waukee, IA) was the only other pitcher to top 80 mph. He and he also posted among the top broad jumps:

2016 C Caleb Stekl

2016 C Caleb Stekl (Marion HS – Marion, IA) led both the pop time and raw velocity categories, and finished just two mph off the lead of the top exit velocity — making him the second of two players to lead in multiple top measurable categories. After Stekl at 1.93 were 2016 C Nathan Hoth (see above) at 1.97 and 2016 C Cale Jamesson (Benton Community HS – Keystone, IA) at 2.00. With a mark of 82 mph, 2016 SS Brandon Kovach (Muscatine HS – Muscatine, IA) was the only other player to better 80 mph.

6-foot-2 and 240 pound left-handed hitter Shane Finn a 2016 1B from Benton Community HS in Atkins, IA — generated the best bat exit velocity, with a top bolt of 85 mph. Right behind him at 84 mph were 2016 1B Dylan Callahan (Sheboygan South – Sheboygan, WI) and 2015 OF Kolby Reed (see above).
