Top Pop Times – 2016 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament
Pop times were recorded during the defensive workout, and as much as possible on the game fields between innings and in live situations.
The class of 2017 accounted for all seven sub-1.9 pop times we saw over the course of the defensive workouts on Saturday and Sunday. Kyle Harper (Houston, TX) posted 1.81 for the second time to lead all catchers at this event — he posted 1.81 for the first time at the June 2015 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Tomball, TX. Seven more 2017 graduates posted times between 1.90 and 1.99, while another seven checked in between 2.00 and 2.05.

Eight 2016 graduates recorded workout pop times between 1.90 and 1.99, with another four coming in between 2.00 and 2.05.
When we last saw 2018 C Beaux Escobar (Thompson’s Station, TN) at the November 2014 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Germantown, TN, his low pop time was 2.25. About 14 months later at the 2016 UA Pre-Season event, he posted 1.98 to lead all 2018 graduates — a time that will likely rank in the top 10 among his graduating class when we compile top pop times again soon. Nine catchers recorded times of at least 2.15 to round out the top times for the 2018 group.

Two polished catchers went head to head earlier today. Austin Bates and Kyle Lovelace both impressed. Athletic defenders. #UAPreSeason
