Tyler Torres Enters 2018 Top Five With 1.94 Pop Time
A little more than two years ago, in February 2014 at the Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Lake Charles, LA, 2018 C C Tyler Torres (Evadale, TX) recorded a low pop time of 2.18. An 8th-grader at the time, he featured a well-rounded set of tools and earned high marks across the board from our scouts.
Now, two years later and back in Lake Charles for another Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, Torres posted a low pop time of 1.94 to trim more than two tenths off his previous best, and to enter a tie for the fifth lowest pop time among the class of 2018. Only six players are in with lower times so far, and he sits just six tenths off the pace at 1.88 seconds.
A right-handed hitter listed at 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, Torres added 85 mph exit velocity to qualify among 2018 leaders, and improved his raw velocity by three mph up to 81.
2018 C/SS Nathanial Tate
The next best time of weekend was 2.07, turned in by 2018 C/SS Nathanial Tate (Manchester, TN). One year ago at the Chattanooga, TN Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, Tate turned in a low pop time of 1.98 and a raw velocity of 86 mph. He was a freshman at the time, making those numbers quite impressive.
One year later, and back in Chattanooga for another Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, Tate came in a little higher with a 2.07 pop time, and was once again on 86 mph raw velocity. While he didn’t gain on those numbers, he posted healthy improvements in his 60 yard dash (down from 7.44 to 7.14) and his exit velocity (up from 75 to 84 mph).
C Cameron Lejeune (Deridder, LA) was the lone 2019 qualifier at 2.20. He added a 7.08 60 yard dash for his second leaderboard appearance.
