Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Burlington, Vermont
The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour rolls into Burlington, Vermont on Sunday August 9th at Centennial Field, the baseball field at the University of Vermont and home to the Vermont Lake Monsters, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics in the New York-Penn League.
One interesting fact about Centennial Field is the age of the ballpark. At 109 years old, Centennial Field in Burlington is older than both Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Let’s take a look at some recent Baseball Factory players who have come to a tryout in the state of Vermont or who have stayed locally to play in college.
Rayne Supple – Supple made Baseball Factory news back in June after being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 38th round of this year’s Draft, becoming the first player from the state of Vermont to be drafted since 2003.
The Wake Forest University commit has spent this summer playing for the Bristol Blues, a summer collegiate team based out of Bristol, Connecticut.
The 2015 grad from Champlain Valley Union High School was 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 27 innings at the time of his draft selection, according to USA Today High School Sports and is a native of Shelburne, Vermont.
Supple began his Baseball Factory experience back in May 2009 with a Little League Youth Clinic in Williamsport, PA and between November 2009 and November 2011, participated in Pirate City Select Training events. It was Supple’s hard work and determination that led to his nod for the 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament.
From there Rayne was selected to the Under Armour Fall Classic and Futures Series East showcases in September 2013. Supple’s talent stood out as one of the top pitchers involved in each of the high-level events.
Noah Rizio – Rizio, a native of Manchester, Vermont, graduated in 2014 from Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester and is now playing collegiately for Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire.
In high school, Rizio was an All-Marble Valley League selection in 2013 and 2014, and All-State Second Team selection as a senior this season.
For Keene State, Rizio started six games for the Owls this season as a freshman – one of only two pitchers to have at least six starts – pitching 22.0 innings with an ERA of 4.09.
He got his start in an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Rindge, New Hampshire back in February of 2013.
Matthew Marchica – Marchica is a native of Westminster, Vermont and attended high school at Bellow Falls Union, graduating in 2012. He played two years of baseball collegiately with Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island in 2013 and 2014.
In July 2011, Marchica was part of the Cape Cod Pro Select Training where he projected well in the outfield with his defensive skills and also on the mound with his deceptive delivery and good arm path to the plate.
Marchica participated in a Factory tryout in Rindge, NH back in February of 2011 and 2012 and continued developing his skills on the mound, showing good tempo and finishing his pitches well.
