Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Troy, Michigan

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour makes a stop in Troy, Michigan to Brother Rice Baseball Field at Brother Rice High School on Sunday, September 20th.

With a donation of $1.7 million dollars in 2008, the school purchased and developed a seven-acre piece of land in Troy to be the future home of Brother Rice Warrior Baseball. In 2012, Brother Rice Warriors baseball moved into its new home, Warrior Park, featuring artificial turf infield, major league-style dugouts and two batting cages.

All three Baseball Factory players highlighted today hail from Michigan.

DJ Bowen

DJ Bowen

DJ Bowen – Bowen is from Muskegon, Michigan and is a 2014 graduate from Oakridge High School in Muskegon. He attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP (previously the Premium Video Program) in Adrian, Michigan back in May 2013 where he was rated as a solid, athletic third baseman both offensively and defensively. A month later at the second session of the 2013 Omaha National World Series, Bowen continued to progress with his skill set, improving in his 60-yard-dash by running his best time of 7.35 and hitting the ball well, showing a balanced/athletic setup at the plate.

After graduating, the 5’11”, 170 pound infielder/outfielder committed to Trine College, making the Thunder baseball team. He’ll look to factor into the Thunder’s plans as a sophomore in 2016.

Stephen Marowski

Stephen Marowski

Stephen Marowski – We wrote about Marowski back in May as the freshman infielder led the way for the Albion College Britons, finishing the season with a .308 average, three home runs and 27 RBI, including a .341 average with nine extra-base hits against conference competition.

The 18-year old from Farmington Hills, Michigan graduated from Harrison High School in 2014 and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in baseball, playing third base and pitching for the Hawks. He was a two- time All-Oakland Association and All-Farmington Observer player and achieved MVP honors during his sophomore and senior year as well as Most Outstanding Pitcher his senior year.

Marowski showed high marks during his appearances at the Under Armour College PREP event in Adrian back in May 2013 and then three months later at Baseball Factory’s National World Series at Pirate City in August. Praised for his mental makeup, Marowski was a very coachable player and worked hard to improve his 60-time, defensively and offensively, showing quick hands and good bat speed through a level swing path.

Jacob Cronenworth

Jacob Cronenworth

Jacob Cronenworth – Cronenworth is a 2012 graduate from St. Clair High School in St. Clair, Michigan where he was an All-Michigan first-team selection in 2011 and ’12 and was a four-time varsity letter winner and helped to lead St. Clair to a state championship his junior year in ’11.

Cronenworth participated in a College PREP event in Adrian back in September 2010 and then attended the Under Armour Arizona Junior Fall Classic in October 2010.

He’s had a decorated career with the University of Michigan, leading the Wolverines as a junior. The 6’1″, 167 pound infielder/pitcher is second on Michigan’s career saves list with 27 and is tied for 13th all-time with 211 career hits. During his junior season in 2015, he was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and was the Big Ten Tournament MVP. Overall, he hit .338 with 18 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 48 RBI this season for the Maize and Blue.

During the 2015 MLB Draft, Cronenworth was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round where he has been assigned to the short-season Hudson Valley Renegades, where he is currently hitting .291 with 12 doubles, three doubles, a home run and 12 RBI in 51 games.
