Tyler Community College is also one of the oldest colleges in Texas, established in 1926, committed to providing the finest academic education for freshman and sophomore students.

Former Baseball Factory student-athletes highlighted today have all had success either at the collegiate level as teammates or in the minor leagues as one of the Miami Marlins prized pitching prospects.

Tyler Kolek – As a senior at Shepherd High School in Shepherd, TX, Kolek was the 2014 Gatorade Texas Player of the Year after going 5-2 with a 0.35 ERA and striking out 126 batters.

Kolek attended an Under Armour College PREP event in Houston, TX back in February of 2011, participated in the USA Baseball 16U Championship in Arizona four months later and then in 2013, was named an Under Armour All-American while lighting the radar gun up that day with a fastball as high as 99 MPH.

He was drafted in the first round (2nd overall) in the 2014 Draft by the Miami Marlins and after starting eight games as an 18 year-old in the Gulf Coast League for Rookie-Level Marlins, Kolek made 25 starts this season for Single-A Greensboro in the South Atlantic League. He finished 2015 going 4-10 with a 4.56 ERA and striking out 81 batters in 108 2/3 innings. With a fastball that has been clocked as high as 102 MPH, Kolek’s arm is the prized possession in the Marlins farm system.

Kacy Clemens

Kacy Clemens

Kacy Clemens – Clemens lettered three years at Houston Memorial High in Houston where he went 8-0 with 0.27 ERA on the mound and hit .354 with 26 RBIs at the plate as a senior in 2013.

Kacy committed to the University of Texas where his father, “The Rocket”, Roger Clemens played and won a National Championship for the Longhorns in 1983. The right-hander wrapped up his sophomore season in 2015 making nine starts (10 overall appearances) going 3-2 with a 4.17 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 45 1/3 innings pitched.

Clemens was a 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American and participated in the 2012 Team One South Showcase. Continuing his trend to go along with his major league bloodline, Clemens was an Under Armour All-American in August of 2012 where he showed low 90’s velocity on his fastball and a good 12-6 shape on his curveball. As a senior, Kacy attended the Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament for the second straight year in ’13, striking out six of the 10 batters he faced with his curve being his out pitch during the event.

Ty Culbreth

Ty Culbreth

Ty Culbreth – Culbreth graduated from Bryan High School in Bryan, TX in 2012 and earned All-State Second Team honors as a senior as well as Bryan’s Most Valuable Player and All-District First Team honors. As a junior, he did the same thing, earning All-District First Team and Most Valuable Player honors under head coach David Powers.

A teammate at Texas with Kacy Clemens, Culbreth wrapped his junior season with the Longhorns in ’15 and the Bryan native pitched well, making 27 appearances (five starts), going 4-5 with a 3.95 ERA in 54 2/3 innings pitched. Culbreth struck out 44 batters and made his first 21 appearance of the season in relief before moving into a starting role on April 18 at Kansas. 17 of his 27 outings in 2015 were scoreless.

In 2011, Culbreth was an Under Armour Pre-Season All-American who showed serious poise and polish during the event as a left-hander. His velocity reached high-80’s with a lot of late movement. He added a sharp-breaking curveball that has good depth and tilt and serves as his out-pitch and a change that fades and sinks, where he commanded all three of his pitches with a balanced, repeatable delivery.
