2011 MLB First Year Player Draft: Round 1 Recap
Baseball Factory would like to congratulate all the players who were selected in the first round of this year’s draft! So far the 2011 MLB draft has featured one of the most talented classes in recent years, and the first round was not short of Baseball Factory representatives. Overall, 17 Baseball Factory players were selected in the first and supplemental rounds.
Bubba Starling did not have to wait long to hear his name called. He was the first Baseball Factory player selected as the 5th overall pick by the Kansas City Royals. Starling, who took part in the 2010 Under Armour All-America game, powered by the Baseball Factory, was the first position player and second high school player off the board. Francisco Lindor was not far behind as the 9th overall pick to the Cleveland Indians. He was the first shortstop to be drafted and the fourth high school player selected. Starling, George Springer, and Brandon Nimmo were the top three outfielders taken, each of whom came through the Baseball Factory program. Brandon Nimmo was the 13th overall pick by the New York Mets, and one of the more remarkable stories in this year’s draft. He became the highest player ever drafted out of Wyoming, a state which doesn’t have high school baseball. Starling and Nimmo were also joined by Dante Bichette, Jr. (NYY), Jacob Anderson (TOR), Dwight Smith Jr. (TOR) and Hudson Boyd (MIN) as the strong contingent of 2010 Under Armour All-American players to be drafted in the first round. First baseman C.J. Cron, 17th overall (LAA) and catcher Blake Swihart, 26th overall (BOS), were the first at their respective positions to be drafted. Both participated in Team One showcases. In addition, Baseball Factory had six pitchers drafted in one of the deepest pitching classes ever.
Baseball Factory would like to once again congratulate all our players drafted in the first round of this year’s MLB Amateur Draft. It’s a deserving accomplishment and testament to all the hard work and dedication as young players. We wish them continued success as they take their game to the next level and in all their future endeavors.
