2011 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Top 15: 2012 Grads Honorable Mentions

With over 260 players participating in the 2011 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools including sub seven second speed, sub two second pop time and above 89mph velocities. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.

The following are the Top 15 2012 Grads Honorable Mentions from the 2011 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament. They are listed in alphabetical order.

Harold Arauz | RHP | Ancon, Panama | Colegio Puerto Armuelles
Harold is a young RHP from Panama that drew some high-level scouts to watch him throw. He is free, easy and smooth and though he only flashed mid 80s velocity with natural cut, there is definitely more in the tank.

Alex Couch | SS/3B | Wise, VA | JJ Kelly High School
Alex is a big infielder (6’5”, 190) who shows good athleticism and can really swing the bat – as evidenced by his quick hands and five hard hit balls in six at-bats in Arizona. He also has sure hands and plenty of arm to stay on the left side of the diamond at the next level.

Kyle Cumlander | RHP | Mobile, AL | Faith Academy
Kyle is a well-built RHP with an advanced feel for a three pitch mix. FB has run and tops at 88mph, CB is tight with some depth and CH has late sink. He’s a good athlete who is a strike thrower and isn’t afraid to pitch inside.

Chance Czerwonka |1B | Highlands, TX | Goose Creek Memorial
Chance is a young 1B with present strength on a 6’2”, 200 lb. frame. He swings it with authority, driving balls to all fields. Also solid around the bag at 1B, but his best value will be as a run producer at the next level.

Justin Flores | OF | Fresno, CA | Clovis West
A physical presence at 6’3”, 200 lbs, Justin has a smooth LH stroke with some loft power. His best spot defensively appears to be LF, but his middle-of-the-order bat is what will attract college coaches and scouts.

Manny Galvan | SS | Baytown, TX | Goose Creek Memorial
Manny is a high-energy infielder with good actions and sure hands. He has an advanced hitting approach with a good path and excellent barrel accuracy. A 6.93 runner, he will fit nicely as a #2 hitter at the next level.

Jason Goldstein | C | Highland Park, IL | Highland Park High School
Jason has polished all-around game behind the plate with pop times in the 1.90-1.95 range and advanced receiving and blocking skills. Repeatable, short swing and future power have this young catcher already committed to the University of Illinois.

Alvie James | 3B | Panama, Panama | William Kil Patrick High School
Alvie is 3B from Panama who looks the part with a 6’2”, 185 pound frame and smooth, natural actions. Soft hands, a quick exchange and on-line carry to his throws fit well there. At the plate he has a line drive stroke with quick hands that can catch up to velocity.

Michael Lutz | RHP | North Barrington, IL | Lake Zurich High School
Michael is a lean RHP with plus stuff including a FB that touched 90 mph with good downhill plane. He also flashed a sharp CB with good tilt, a sinking CH and showed the ability to run a 2-seamer in to RH hitters. He was close to dominant in his three innings in Arizona.

Collin McGee | C | Auburn, PA | Schuylkill Haven High School
Collin is a strong young C who is presently a bit raw, but has outstanding upside. Has a durable body behind the plate with arm strength (1.91 time to 2B in game) and instincts. Quick hands and aggressive approach at plate can be harnessed into quality bat with power in the future.

Christopher Moates | RHP | Smithville, GA | Deerfield Windsor School
Christopher is a big, physical RHP (6’5”/220) with outstanding sinker from ¾ slot. He touches 87 mph now with more to come in the future. FB is complemented with hard, downer CB that is a swing-and-miss pitch and he also mixes in a developing change-up. Shows outstanding command of FB down in the zone from a deceptive, full-windup delivery; he could pitch out of a college bullpen now.

Matt Tenuta | LHP | Cary, NC | Apex

Matt is a high-ceiling LHP with excellent pitcher’s frame (6’3”/195) and a heavy, sinking fastball that tops at 87 mph. Has great tempo to both his delivery and the game when he is on the mound. Shows good feel for both a change-up with sink and a curveball with bite and depth. Throws strikes and does it all with ease.

Connor Teykl | SS | Sugarland, TX | Kempner
Connor is a tall, athletic SS (6’3”/190) with the makings of a big time bat. LH swing is fluid and easy with a knack for finding the barrel. Mature hitter that shows plate discipline and uses the entire field. Flashes soft hands and arm strength in the infield, but needs some refinement for the next level.

Adam Walton | SS/2B | Buffalo Grove, IL | Stevenson
Adam is an athletic and speedy IF, as shown by his impressive 60 yard dash of 6.65. Defensively he has soft hands and gets rid of the ball quick. Adam is a hustler and can make a difference at the next level with his pure speed.

Jacob Williams | RHP | Cisco, IL | Monticello
Jacob is a RHP with aggressive approach on the mound. He attacks hitters with a live high 80s fastball from a clean, repeatable delivery. His sharp breaking ball is his out-pitch with good depth and tilt. His confidence in this pitch is high and he commands it well down in the zone. Overall, a good athlete who competes on the mound.
