2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament: Top 20 2013 Grads Honorable Mentions
With over 325 players participating in the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools including sub seven second speed, sub two second pop time and above 89mph velocities. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.
The following are the Top 20 2013 Grads Honorable Mentions from the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament.

Grant Brown | 3B | Gulfport, MS | Gulfport
Grant is an interesting combination of a 6’2”/210lb. frame who is a 6.66 runner. The skills are presently raw, but with outstanding bat speed and overall athleticism this is a prospect to watch closely.
Matt Brown | 3B | St. Louis, MO | St. John Vianney
Matt is a physical young 3B with polished skills. He is a dependable fielder with sure hands and, at the plate, is a rhythmic hitter with a clean stroke and serious power potential.
Corey Campbell | SS/OF | Pottsville, AR | Pottsville
Corey is an athletic, versatile player with present strength. He is a quality defender at short with a quick first step and carry on his throws across the diamond. As a hitter, he has a short, quick stroke with pull-side power.
Spencer Dull | C/3B | Cicero, IN | Hamilton Heights
Spencer has a strong, athletic frame that is durable enough to stay behind the plate. He is a switch-hitter with a solid stroke from both sides with quick hands. As a defender he shows a quick release and the ability to handle both positions well.
JR Holloway | RHP | Austin, TX | Westwood
JR has the prototypical big body that you think of when you hear he is a starting pitching form Texas. He has a coordinated delivery, has been up to 89mph and has a feel for both his curve and change. Add in a clean arm stroke and this is a prospect to keep an eye on.
Tyler Jones | SS | Coppell, TX | Coppell
Jones is a solid all-around shortstop who does everything well without a true standout tool. He is a dependable fielder with sure hands, a clean release and accurate arm across the diamond. He also has an advanced approach at the plate with some pop. The more you watch this true “baseball player” the more you like him.
Weston King | RHP | New Braunfels, TX | New Braunfels
Weston is an athletic young two-way performer who stood out on the mound in Arizona. His balanced, in-line delivery leads to strike after strike. He attacks hitters with a sinking fastball that touches 87 and complements that with a swing-and-miss slider and a tailing change-up.
Matthew Kleinstein | C | Narlboro, NJ | Colts Neck
Matthew is a strong backstop with a well-rounded tool set. He is a polished receiver who is able to handle velocity and shows the leadership and game awareness that you want in your catcher. At the plate, he shows quick hands from a balanced approach and flashes power that will continue to emerge.
Omar Maldonado | RHP/C | Redondo Beach, CA | St. John Bosco
Omar tackles the difficult combination of being a P/C combination. On the mound his tall frame is a good presence and leads to downhill plate on his fastball that’s up to 87. He also mixes in a quality change and downer breaking ball with some bite. As a position player, he shows flashes of power and uses his arm strength for times to 2B as low as 1.97.
Zac McCrum | RHP/1B | Cumming, GA | South Forsyth
Zac is big, physical player (6’4”,230) who is intimidating on the mound. He’s a quick working strike thrower who sits comfortably in the upper 80s, touching 89 consistently. He has good tilt to his breaking ball and a promising change. He K’d 9 of the 16 hitters he faced. As a position player, he shows power and a feel around the 1B bag.
Madison Nickens | OF | Gonzales, LA | St. Amant
Nickens is a burner that we have seen as fast as a 6.56 in the 60. He is a lean young centerfielder with a sound LH stroke. As he matures physically he will become a special player.
Nicholas Ott | RHP | Virginia Beach, VA | Bishop Sullivan Catholic
Nicholas is another big-bodied RHP with quality stuff. He throws a heavy fastball that is up to 88mph and tight curveball with good tilt that is an out pitch. A change with fade is the third pitch for this young arm with a bright future.
Niko Pacheco | C | Fresno, CA | Bullard
Niko is a catcher with a strong, durable body who can really swing the bat. He generates bat speed with a level stroke and the ball jumps off his bat. Defensively, he has strong hands, blocks well and we had him as low as 1.94 to 2B.
Drake Parker | OF | Union City, TN | Union City
Drake is a gamer that plays hard and fast. We’ve seen him at a 6.49 in the 60 and it is useable. He is an instinctual player who constantly puts pressure on the defense with a lwft-handed line drive stroke and an aggressive approach on the bases.
Cameron Ragsdale | C/RHP | McDonough, GA | Eagles Landing Christian Academy
Another of the seldom seen C/P combinations, Cameron does both well. His arm is evident behind the plate with times in the 1.87-1.94 range to 2B. He’s balanced at the plate and uses his present strength to generate some power. On the mound Cameron sits 85-88 and flashes polished off-speed stuff (curve and change).
Bryan Reynolds | SS | Brentwood, TN | Brentwood
As a 6’3” switch-hitting shortstop with sure hands, Bryan stands out in the prospect crowd. His actions are sound and his swing is solid from both sides of the plate leading to consistent line drives with gap power.
John Riley | C | San Jose, CA | Willow Glen
Riley is a solidly built catcher with legitimate right-handed power. He generates excellent bat speed and drives balls to all parts of the park with present HR power to the pull side. He has the makings of a good receiver behind the plate.
James Swan | RHP | Orange, TX | Little Cypress
Swan is a tall, lean RHP who if fluid in everything he does. He is up to 89mph with an effortless delivery and clean arm stroke leading us to believe there is more in the tank. He complements his fastball with a hard curve and a sinking change. The arrow is pointing up on this prospect.
Jacob Whiting | C | Wellington, AL | Alexandria
Jacob is an advanced catch and throw guy with a solid set of tools. He receives well, is quick on balls in the dirt and gets the ball to 2B in 1.91. At the plate he is a mature hitter who centers balls consistently, uses the whole field and flashes some power.
Cody Ziegler | C | Broken Arrow, OK | Broken Arrow
Cody is a take-charge leader behind the plate with arm strength and the advanced receiving skills that allow him to handle top level pitching. At the plate, this physical young man shows bat speed, the ability to square balls up and flashes of power.
