2014 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament: 2016 Grad Top 10

With over 400 players participating in the 2014 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools from blistering foot speed, to rockets for arms on the mound and behind the plate. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.

The following are the Top 10 2016 Grads from the 2014 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament.

Conner Capel | OF | Katy, TX | Seven Lakes HS

Capel has an athletic frame with present strength at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. He maintains athletic positions to hit, and applies strength at contact with bat speed to produce standout impact ability. He is a well rounded offensive player that drives the ball from gap to gap, and runs the bases aggressively and instinctually. He runs better down the line (4.37 from the left side) than in the 60, and shows arm strength suitable to any OF spot.

DeShawn Lookout | SS/RHP | Oklahoma City, OK | Westmoore HS

Lookout has a well proportioned frame with room to fill out at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds. He features a loose right handed stroke with some ability to accelerate the barrel through contact. He has naturally athletic actions to hit, along with good hand-eye coordination and ability to hit the ball to all fields. Defensively, he works light on his feet and showed the ability to play thru the ball with momentum along with some ability to catch and throw. He runs well enough, at 4.33 down the line from the right side, and showed evidence of arm strength on the mound where he posted an easy 84-86 from an upright delivery.

Griffin Jolliff | 3B/RHP | Buford, GA | Buford HS

Jolliff has a solid strong frame with some width at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds. His hands work well to hit, his move through the zone is loose and live following a full rotation of his core. He drives the ball through the gaps with wood, and has some leverage in his swing. Defensively he shows solid hands along with proper footwork and angle through the ball. His fastball appears to have more pop than 82-84, his arm works well and the ball leaves his hand with natural tail and some occasional sink.

Kenyon Yovan | RHP | Beaverton, OR | Westview HS

Yovan has a sturdy, solid build at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He pounded the zone with an 86-87 mph fastball, a pitch he naturally drives down through the zone. His actions bear some resemblance to Roger Clemens, especially his arm stroke which was of very slight depth from the glove and then compact and powerful out front. His breaking ball is a low to mid 70’s pitch with 11-5 shape while his change is thrown around 80 and has flashed some sink action.
Jordan Williams | SS | Albany, CA | Albany HS

Williams generates a lot of speed and life from his 5-foot-8 and 150 pound frame. He featured standout bat speed and maintained his connection to the ground well, allowing him to rotate his core and remain in athletic positions to hit. Defensively, he was active with his feet and showed the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles. He got down the line in 4.4 from the right side of the plate.

JJ Bleday | LHP | Titusville, PA | Titusville HS

Bleday, a Vanderbilt University commit, has a long and lean frame at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds. He features good mound presence and good overall feel for his stuff, along with athletic ability uncommon for his position. He topped at 83 with his fastball, spun a 2-8 shape breaking ball, and threw strikes with both pitches this outing. His arm works well, and his stuff stands to make a jump as he matures physically and fills out.

Ryan Cash | SS/2B | Plano, TX | Prestonwood Christian Academy

Cash has a lean build on an athletic frame at 5-foot-11 and 135 pounds. He is a well rounded and naturally capable player. Offensively, he features a balanced approach with rhythm to hit from both sides of the plate. His stroke is short with some quickness, and in general he has a great foundation to build on as he gets more physical. Defensively, he instinctually closes on the ball off the bat, and shows natural catch and throw skills. He got down the line in 4.30 from the left side of the plate, and posted 6.83 in the 60.

Austin Franklin | RHP | Florala, AL | Florala HS

Franklin has length to his limbs, a strong lower half, and still more room to fill out at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. His fastball was 84-86, and he was able to leverage it to the bottom of the zone at times. His breaking ball also flashed depth, and has swing and miss potential as it develops more power. The change was thrown with very good feel, and had fade action in the mid 70’s. He featured good mound presence along with some feel for pitching, giving him a great foundation to build on as he matures physically.

Deano Looney | OF | Matthews, NC | Butler HS

Looney has a stocky, strong build at 5-foot-9 and 195 pounds. He stands out for his pure ability to impact the ball. His exit velocity of 102.0 mph was good for first place in the Easton Hit Lab, while his bat speed and raw power were among tops at the event as well. As you’d expect, he makes an aggressive and full hack – though his move is coordinated and balanced through contact. He runs better down the line (4.43 from the left side) than in the 60, and defensively he is best suited for LF.

Daniel Bakst | SS/3B | New York, NY | Poly Prep Country Day

Bakst has a lean, athletic build at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds. His right handed stroke is short and quick, and is built to utilize the middle of the field. He maintains athletic positions through his move, and has shown the ability to generate bat speed through contact. His defensive actions are fluid while his hands are soft and sure. Double play feeds and slow roller play were executed with good body control. He posted 7.02 in the 60 yard dash.
