At the Sanford, FL Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout on February 14, 6-foot-3 LHP Tyler Snow (Eustis, FL) reached 87 mph with his fastball to tie for the fourth best velocity among 2018 pitchers. His breaking ball flashed depth and definition to 1-7 action into the low 70s, while his changeup came out of a different arm stroke than his other two pitches. As he learns to take full advantage of his leverage to finish his pitches, he stands to throw a higher percentage of strikes with firmer and more consistent stuff.

Also in Sanford, at Jack Pantelias Field on the campus of Seminole State College, 3B/RHP Paxton Ellison (Mount Dora, FL) ran his fastball up to 81 mph to enter a tie for the eighth best fastball in the class of 2019. His peak velocity actually came on his two-seamer, which had heavy arm side life sufficient for a half grade bump up the Baseball Factory 10-70 Scouting Scale — offering proof that an accurate look at a fastball must include life and command in addition to velocity.

One day later, at the Palmyra, PA tryout, OF/RHP Troy Schreffler (Harrisburg, PA) touched 83 mph to tie the sixth best fastball velocity among 2019 graduates. A talented two-way player, he also qualified among the leaders in exit velocity with a mark of 89 mph.

At the same event, RHP J.P. Shaw (Mainesburg, PA) ran his heater up to 86 mph to earn a spot on the class of 2017 fastball velocity leaderboard.
