Alumni Impact: Pro Ball Begins While College and High School Battle On

MLB

Bud Norris (2002 Premium Video Program, 2002 Baseball Factory National Tournament Team) tossed five Ks in 5-2/3 innings in his first Opening Day start of his young career to lead Houston to an 8-2 win.

In his sophomore Major League season, Bryce Harper (2008 Team One West) blasted homeruns in each of his first two at-bats this season, both deep into right field, making him the youngest player ever to go yard twice on opening day!

Yankee’s ace CC Sabathia (Team One National Showcase) threw four Ks and kept the fearsome Tiger’s offense silent. Although CC has yet to regain his velocity, his accuracy was pinpoint and his changeup was untouchable in his April 7th win.

MiLB

Jeff Kobernus (2004-2005 Team One West) is having a stellar year at the plate, batting .545 with a double, triple and HR on the year for the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals AAA).

Minnesota Twins prospect Byron Buxton (2011 Under Armour All-America Game) is \ batting .500, with two homeruns, a double, triple and six RBI’s in 20 at-bats.

Garin Cecchini (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases andDeven Marrero (2008 Under Armour All-America Game) went 3-for-5 with three doubles to lead the Salem Red Sox to a 7-6 win over Potomac.

The Charleston River Dogs’ 9-4 win over the West Virginia Power featured many Baseball Factory Alumni for the River Dog’s including:

Dante Bichette, JR (2009 Team One South, 2010 Under Armour All-America Game) sealed the victory with a 9th inning Grand Slam.

Peter O’Brien (2007 Team One South, 2007 Under Armor All-America Game) went 2-for-4 with a homerun.

Greg Bird (2010 Under Armour All-America Game) was 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Bird is hitting .412 for the season.

Taylor Dugas (2006-2007 Team One South, 2007 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament) was 2-for-4 in the game with 2 RBI, bringing his season batting average to .467.

Robert Refsnyder (2006 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs, and walked twice.

Evan Rutckyj  (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) made sure the offensive fireworks wouldn’t go to waste pitching 5 spotless innings to get the win.

The West Virginia Power wouldn’t go away easily, thanks to the efforts of Josh Bell (2009 Team One Futures Game), who hit a clutch double with the bases loaded and Stetson Allie (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) who was 1-for-3 with a homerun.

NCAA

Pepperdine RHP Corey Miller (2008 Ryan Lemmon Sophomore Showcase) was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week thanks to his 10K’s, 10-inning shutout victory against Ole Miss. Miller held Ole Miss to three hits.  

Josh Nethaway (2008 Team One North, 2008 Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament) was named the America East Player of the Week after Albany swept a three game series from Stony Brook. Over the series Nethaway batted .455 with a HR, three RBIs and a .727 slugging percentage.

Tommy Lawrence (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) from Maine was named the America East Pitcher of the Week with his complete game victory over Binghamton – hurling seven strikeouts and allowing only one earned run.

Jimmy Herget (2011 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) from University of South Florida received the Big East Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching a complete game shutout over Pittsburgh for a 1-0 win. Herget is leading the Bulls with a 1.14 ERA over 47 1/3 innings this season.

From UNC Pembroke, Jordan Edgerton (2009 Team One South, 2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week as he put up a .571 batting average, two homeruns and five RBIs, crossing the plate six times himself.

Wes Perkins (2007 Team One South, 2008-2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week batting .471 with three doubles, a homerun and 12 RBI, leading the Millsaps College Majors to a 4-0 week.

Alex Bregman (2009 Team One Futures Game, 2010-2011 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) from LSU extended his hitting streak to 22 games. Over the streak Bregman is hitting .505 with nine doubles, five triples, two homeruns and 23 RBIs.

High School

Matt McPhearson (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) is batting .538 with 13 stolen bases on the year.

Billy McKinney (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) is batting .477 with three homeruns.

Hunter Harvey (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) has brought the heat this season. He is 5-0 with a 0.44 ERA, throwing 70 strikeouts and only giving out eight walks.

Clint Frazier(2012 Under Armour All-America Game) is showcasing his power and has already hit his 12th homerun of the season.

Terry McClure (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) is batting .364 with five homeruns and five stolen bases.
