Baseball Factory 2015 MLB Draft Coverage – Power Hitters, Part 2
Perhaps the most difficult tool to find is power, but this year’s high school crop of talent gives teams several options to look at in that department for the 2015 MLB Draft.
Steve Bernhardt, Chairman of the Under Armour Selection Committee and Vice President of Baseball Operations for Baseball Factory previews two more power hitters who could be selected on day one of the 2015 MLB Draft featuring right-handed hitters Devin Davis and Demi Orimoloye.
Davis, a senior at Valencia High School in Santa Clarita, California has a smooth, clean swing that generates big-time power, mainly to his pull side and his power is evident in game play as well, driving the ball with authority all over the ballpark.
His stroke is compact and during last year’s All-America Game, showed arguably the best combination of raw power and overall hitting ability. The balls being hit by Davis were described simply as “sounding and reacting differently off the bat.”
Orimoloye is a big kid at 6’4″, 225 pounds and the Canadian Junior National Team member has shown his ability to hit it out of the park to any direction with ease, especially dangerous to right-center.
He is a strong, athletic player who, while having somewhat of a raw swing, has tons of potential. Demi is advancing rapidly as a player and the sky is the limit for him as he continues to learn the game. He squares up the baseball pretty well, maintaining good barrel action and just flat out punishes the baseball with his swing.
