Major League Baseball announced the American League Cy Young Award winner today, as Kansas City’s Zack Greinke earned a clear victory with 25 of a possible 28 first-place votes. Greinke, a former Team One East participant, finished the 2009 season with a 16-8 record and a Major League leading 2.16 ERA for the Royals. Justin Verlander, another past Team One standout, finished with the third highest point total in voting after winning 19 games for the Detroit Tigers. In the fourth spot for this year’s Cy Young Award is CC Sabathia, already the owner of a Cy Young and this year’s American League Championship Series MVP. Sabathia participated in Team One events as a young student athlete and this year helped lead the New York Yankees to their 27th World Series Championship. Once a Team One player, Halladay finished the 2009 season with 17 wins and a 2.78 ERA for the Jays.
